It's been a long time since I posted but hello to anyone who remembers me and my Elefant (see picture strip above - about a third from the left).
Anyway - just thought I would tell you about a biker friendly B&B in Austria that a friend of mine has set up recently which is perfectly situated for anyone crossing Europe or looking for a location at the centre of the Carinthia area. The B&B has 5 rooms with a variety of twin/double/triple arrangements available, all rooms are very comfortable and quiet with views of the mountains. It is a very quiet and secure location, undercover parking for bikes with nearby restaurants for evening meals. The owners (Ryan and Alison) left UK a year ago and bought this B&B in a very brave move to pastures new. I have just spent a couple of weeks there with my son and the place is really great. The local village is Feld Am See and this is at the head of a small lake in a valley in the mountains. Fantastic biking roads, and access to many high alpine toll roads by buying the 'Karnten Card' which works like a ski pass in summer.
We used it to take our mountain bikes up the ski lifts then ride back down the forest fire roads.
So in conclusion, we liked it a lot and Ryan and Alison will look after you very well if you choose to stay for a night or several days. If you are travelling from the UK to Italy/Slovenia/Croatia this is a good stop off.
