    I was given instructions on how to cook Geese many moons ago --- long intro about garlic and bacon ,--- put it in the oven at 180C. Immediately put an old leather boot in the oven. Cook for Four hours; Discard the goose and eat the old boot.

    P.S. ref the state of the roads. Most of the Scottish councils are nearly bankrupt and can barely muster up enough cash to put salt on the canteen tables ----- never mind gritting the road network effectively ! What route "plan" have you decided on now that you have an xlnt tool to work with ?

    Steve T and Austin , described January and February conditions spot on. I would only add ---- it's only daylight for 6 hrs in January and it is a pretty gray light, in the rain Austin referred to. February used to be predictably colder/more ice, with bluer skies --- but who knows these days.

    Maybe this belongs in General Chat, but --- How would you heat a pie right through (normal 100mm dia. type pie that usually oozes fluid as you heat it) using normal camp cooking kit ?? I know the thread is probably more intent on eat it hot at the pub or bakers , but ----

    I thought they were almost certainly all on a ring in the seat release keyhole ! That's where mine usually are "the next day ".
