Ferry line closing down

The DFDS Ferry line Esbjerg - Harwich will close down the 29'th of september this year.
Transportation of freights will be diverted to the line Esbjerg - Immingham.
Transportation of passengers between Denmark and the UK will be closed down, due to lack of passengers and the competition from low price airlines.
The new rules for low emission fuels for ships causing more expensive fuel costs also adds to desicion of closing down the route.
The ferry line has been in operation since 1875

This means that there are no longer any easy ways of transporting your self and the bike from Sweden/Denmark/Norway to Great Britain by ferry.

:eekicon:
but they where not so cheap anyway. I looked into it once and found the rates a bit expensive

I have been on that ferry a few times and it is a long and boring trip used mostly by Danes heading to blighty.
As its run by DFDS ,its very expensive and 22 hours on a boat with minimum services could be a bit much especially when you have to pay £100 for a cabin per person.
The food is rubbish and so is the beer so I for one wont be missing it as I got no plans to visit to blighty any time soon.
Last time I took my bike on that ferry it cost me £500 for me and my son and the only alternative now is a long ride down through Germany and Holland and get a boat from the Hook of Holland if that is still going.
I would much rather spend my money on petrol to travel up to Sweden or down to Germany where I find the people more friendly, especially those blonde Swedish babes that love to practice their english on you.

Is this part of Britains plan to leave europe?
If so, :mockery22: :mockery17:

Its a bit of a long way from Denmark to Holland and every time I have been to Amsterdam, something weird seems to happen for some unknown reason. :mockery17: :mockery17: :mockery17:

Yeah, funny stuff happens to tourists here...

Had to snigger today, at the sight of a pair of obviously tourists all dressed up in head to toe orange for the traditional massive citywide Queens day party on april 30.

Which had been moved forward a few days to the 26th, due to us having a king as of last year. Oops. They looked quite lost...

The average Amsterdammer considers anyone from outside the city a tourist.

(That would include me, then. Oh well.)

The last time the missus and I travelled on DFDS it was Newcastle-Esbjerg and it was a horrible experience. The food was disgusting, the beer very expensive and the whole ship was filthy dirty and reeked of heavy oil. The cabin next door was occupied by two Scottish couples, who literally did that all night - couple, accompanied by grunting, comments on performance etc and interrupted by vomitting into the handbasin. We got no sleep at all and were committed to drive 500 miles to the Czech border the following day. Nowadays we do Dover-Calais as I can just about put up with 90 minutes on these overpriced, stinking, floating hangars.
