Home at 5.30 for me - just a reversal of the northbound journey except for the last bit due to the M6 being closed at Lancaster. It fecking chaos round here. Even my tiny wee grassy lane route was snarled up.

great weekend & great company. Well done Hudders for organising it again. Muker next year I believe.

Home at 5.15. East roads are way less busy than M6. Filtering happened on A66. Thanks to Austin for the headsup, John for the fishing lesson and Hudders for organising again. Great to see you all.

My sat Nav was constantly updating the amount of delay if I had stayed on the “official diversion” route. It started at 3hours when I reached the M6. By the time I got to Kendal where I started my own wee lanes diversion it said the delay was 8 hours. . Local reports of people taking over 12hours to travel through the official diversion.

The same closure is currently planned for the next three weekends - that’s M6 south from J33-J32. You have been warned. Although Lancashire police have apparently suggested to the Highways agency that they have a rethink.

Hi peeps here's what I posted on CRF forum regarding the bike

I had an issue yesterday. 1100 ATAS DCT ES. Bike is new to me done 6000 miles. When travelling at 60 mph in the outside lane of a motorway (heavy traffic), dry weather all day, the engine cut out, the DCT disengaged and I was able to freewheel to a safe place, screen stayed on. Engine and oil light on, DCT showing still in 5th gear. When ignition turned back on a strange sound like the starter trying to engage but not 4-5 clicks then stopped. No engine turning over. Looked in the book but no information. Rear wheel able to spin back and forward. After a while of switching on and off and hiding for cover in the torrential rain that had now started! (Scotland), each time I switched on the gear position had moved down 4,3,2 then N. The bike started up. I rang the nearest Honda dealer, they said to bring it in and they could do a code read. 3 codes came up

112-1 Power Train CAN communication DT DCT
U0 19E-00 CAN Communication Malfunction (PTCAN) PGM-FI
P1712-00 TCM CPU Malfunction PGM-FI

The dealer cleared/reset and test rode the bike. No issues, I had no issues after the bike started up. They recommended a full diagnostic to see why all of these happened at exactly the same time. I decided to head for home
They could not tell what had happened but did tell me the system as they described it has had a scare causing these major faults, stored the codes and reset itself, which is why I was able to start it up and ride again. I rode 330 miles home through extremely heavy rain for 2 hrs then normal rain for a further 2 hrs. No issues at all. I'll book it in with a local Honda and update this when I have any information.

A big shout out to Victor Devine Motorcycles (Glasgow) who were accommodating and there for me when I needed the reassurance. Fitted me in for a code read and were very hospitable. Thanks guys.

Also, thanks to Jonathan at Rugged Roads who was on the phone to me and looking at all sources to find any similar issue and how it was resolved. Both he and Chad recommended getting to the nearest Honda dealer

The bike is great, I love it to bits. Technology is my fear. I don't have these issues with my other Africa Twins

It would appear this is now a global issue that Honda recognise and are starting a recall

Honda CRF1100 Africa Twin DCT Recalled Over Software Error - autoevolution

Gutted I could not get to see you all. By the time Honda had cleared it and test rode it the time was 5.00 pm. Getting out of Glasgow town centre was slow going and by the time I got to the A814 to M8 the torrential rain had started. All the advice I got was to try and get home. I agreed with this. I would not have wanted a break down to spoil any one else's weekend. I'll put an update when I have it resolved.

See you all soon

Has mentioned paul, the problem is a manufacturer fault and nothing to do with purchase which is sort of good news. Trip together was all to brief but glad you made it home ok.

Oh shit what a nightmare Paul. Hopefully it's an easy fix. I'll be there definitely next year. Looks like we missed a fantastic weekend.

Just like to add my thanks to Hudders for organising, nice one. It’s the first long ride since before covid and enjoyed it. Nice to see you all again. I did say I’d pay for the lunch but you said no, ouch was right. There again it was Bourton on the Water.

Thanks Austin, I am waiting the head to Wolverhampton, will check before I go and make my own detour if needed.

Works ie closure of the M6 at J33-32 this coming weekend (16-19 September) have been postponed due to Queenies funeral. Future weekends are under review. Night closures are scheduled for the north bound carriageway J32-33 every weekday night for the next 2-3 weeks too. But I think the diversion up the A6 is free flowing enough to not cause much delay.

If you do need to head south when the M6 is closed the best/easiest diversion is to leave at J36 (Kendal/South Lakes) then east on the A65 to Long Preston. Take a right here to Gisburn on the A682, then right onto the A59 back to Preston and the M6 at J31. It’ll add an hour.
