I've just bought this on a whim (in fact my luverley other half bought it for me :thumbsupanim: ). 1992 Mk1 TDM850.

I had one a few years back and sold it when I got my AT. I've wanted another Mk1 ever since (the styling of the Mk2 and the 900 just don't do it for me). It needs a little bit of TLC and some very minor fettling but the price was oh so right it'd have been rude not to buy it

Yo Jim, how's things?

Shame about having to sell the GS.
I have always had a soft spot for the TDMs (but never quite clicked enough to purchase one).
I'm sure your tinkering will do her proud ;)

Now then Phil! How's life treating you and V?

Yeah, 'tis a shame about the GS but I've had it four years, done lots to it, and have some great memories of trips I've done as well, so I can't complain. Riding it is still OK, but the inevitable pushing it around that you have to do isn't doing me any favours. It's a bad time of year to sell a bike but I'm in no rush.

As far as the TDM goes, it's the only bike I've 'gone back to' so it'd better live up to my expectations! Would you have another TRX if one came up at the right price?

Must catch up properly at some point soon Phil.

Cheers, Jim.

And you have just thought to tell us!
Frapped around Eastern Europe with a few mate's, one of em upon a TDM9. Great bike, punchy & frugal (like all these motors seem to be) quirky suspension/balance put me off.
Mateyboy couldn't keep up with the Alp on the twisties - much yo his annoyance ;)

I'm sure a few quid sorting the suspension would make them a wonderful allrounder.
Better quality finish than rumour would have you believe too.

Hiya Jim, things have been good if rather hectic recently and a rather topsy turvey year, unfortunately for not the right reasons....

I test rode a mk1 tdm many moons ago, recalling it feeling smoother & more linear delivery if a bit less punchy than the 270* motor.

This post is surreal.
The TDM has crossed my mind a couple of times recently, I must have test ridden a dozen or more over the years, great bikes but it's always the poor balance/moderate suspension/lack of confidence of me ham fistedley stuffing it into a bend that ultimately put me off taking the plunge!

I had many happy miles aboard the TRX (only let down by poor suspension...!), would I have another, hmmm. Maybe?!

Yes, we must catch up sometime :)

Nah, despite the vfr's, my natural comfort zone is lofty & upright ;)

Yes, we must catch up sometime :)

A few of us were chatting at the national about underrated bikes, the TDM was agreed by all to be very underrated.

I tried a TDM once, the original. Was a nice bike but from what I recall the gearbox was very clunky and took real effort to change gear. Mind you it was tried directly after my GSXR and Suzuki' does seem to do good gearboxes.

The new 900's are nice but I do like the look of the old one.
