Nick in Ontario

Hello Folks,

My pleasure is riding my 1970's Moto Guzzis to the ends of roads in northern Ontario, Quebec, Labrador etc., and it was my delight to briefly host Austin and Anne on the first leg of their mammoth trip across Canada/US. I'm not much of an off-road guy, but I do enjoy riding long distances on unpaved / gravel roads - roads to which my old Guzzis are surprisingly well suited.

Austin very kindly posted a link to my Kindle Book "Beyond the Coffee Shop: Riding 1970's Moto Guzzis in Northern Canada" http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/..._rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=577049067&pf_rd_i=desktop or at your national Amazon...................

but, you can get the gist of most of my travels, and save the price of a pint at the same time, by looking at some of my videos on my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/nick949eldo/videos.

I suspect these might be the most interesting to you lot. They are not quality productions, but give a bit of flavour of riding in this part of the world:

Nuovo Falcone on the Swisha Road https://youtu.be/dqj09H4Uhq8

Guzzi Eldorado on the Trans-Taiga Road https://youtu.be/TxeNNqAsvYc

Riding compilation 2014 https://youtu.be/JawMjbN1r2o

The Road to Biscotasing https://youtu.be/1FMdnI5jxWs

and dozens of others.

BUT - I'm especially looking forward to reading about some Euro-adventures.

Happy riding

Nick

Welcome to the forum nick. I think many on here, me included, would count your trips as off road so don't undersell and they are certainly adventurous. Guys, the tracks nick does are absolutely miles from anywhere and any support or help, and by miles I mean a hundred or more from anywhere let alone a Tarmac Road. His kindle book is well worth a read. His bikes are super too: properly used classic guzzis that over here would polished and only see dry sunny days.

This forum is also only a couple of years old and was born out of frustration with the new owners of another forum most of us were members of: Xrv.org.uk. Ride reports from most of my previous trips are on that forum either in the ride reports sub forum or my very own sub-section "Austins adventures". Enjoy browsing around.

Thanks for the link, but Jeez Austin, I wish I'd read some of your ride reports before I gave you some of that lame advise before you arrived in Canada. You must have been having a hard time biting your tongue while trying to remain polite. I knew you'd been around a bit, but sheesh!

I hope things are still going well. Give Anne my best, and look after yourselves.

Nick

Welcome, Nick - pull up a straight jacket. :D

Your comment, in Austin's thread, about not having an adventure bike is a bit superfluous going by what you done on your stable of bikes. The adventure is not about the bike, but what you do with it.

Agreed. I secretly lust after a Stelvio NTX to replace my 2007 Breva 1100 (the work bike) , but fear I'd want to use it on long trips, leaving the Eldo or Falcone at home - and that would never do.

PS at risk of clogging the airwaves, I don't restrict my riding to Canada. In 2010 and again this March, I rented Royal Enfields and did a little riding. The write-up is published in June's 'RealClassic' magazine, but here are a couple of quick videos:
