RD03 Brake Disc and pads

Hi guys!

Help! Advice needed please? I need to get a new front Disc and pads all round on my RD03 650 Africa Twin (1988).

Rugged Roads don't seem to have anything on their website and I'm a little confused with what is 'good' or not for my bike on the Wemoto site.

Can someone advise what make and where best to go to get these, please?

Many thanks

Morning Meesh

I've just checked and the Front Disc is no longer available from Honda, but just in case the part number is 45351-MS8-000. CMSNL have one left at €259!!!

For a replacement, a quick google shows people for and against both EBC and Kyoto discs - which is no help at all. You could always try somewhere like All Bike Engineering, who would be able to offer advise if nothing else.

As for the pads, the genuine Honda ones are -

Front pair - 45105-MS8-008 and are £17.04 from David Silver's

The rear pads are specified seperately -

The "A" pad - 43105-KT7-762 and is £16.85 from David Silver's

The "B" pad - 43106-KT7-762 and is £9.95 again from David Silver's.

No idea why they should not be listed as a pair - that's Honda for you.

As for HH as against GG pads, I would go for the GG pads. There's this info from Wemoto themselves - Brake Pad Frictional Formulation.

Just done a search and this post by Kjell, over on "the other site", lists some alternatives for the front disc of your XRV650.

You would have to find one of the alternatives and measure it up to see if it will actually fit. But it is an option.

Wasn't the issue that you need to stick to the same combinations, so EBC disc and pads but not Honda Disc and EBC pads?

Thank you Lutin - loads of great information there and very much appreciated....... unfortunately I cannot afford the cost of putting Honda originals on Ben. Taking all that information on board and following a chat of my needs (vs my purse) a very kind young man from Rugged Roads sorted me out for suitable alternatives :)

Chris - I have heard similar things about EBC combinations too whilst asking around. I've gone for Kyoto GG (soft) front pads and Brenta GG (soft) rear pads. Apparently you must be very careful about mixing hard and soft pads. .. plus I've gone for a pattern aftermarket front disc (not EBC).

That has been a good exercise for me to do - I actually feel like I'm beginning to understand the differences between some of these parts :)

Thanks again Guys - I am hopefully all sorted for now :D

Let me know if you want any help fitting them. I'll send Antonio or Vader .... Oh hang on, perhaps you'd better do them yourself ;).

Ask, if you need me.
