The next National on the continent?

Hi Everyone,

It was great to see all of you (well, most of you :) ) again at the National this year!

We floated the idea of a National on the continent, and I'm starting to look into locations.

2 locations come to mind, and I wanted to get some feedback. Both locations have a cool historical angle as they were very important points in WW2, with plenty of sights to see in the area.

The Ardennes: 340 KM from the Channel Tunnel and 320 KM from Hook of Holland (for the Ferry types): Belgian food & beer, plenty of sights to see from the Battle of the Ardennes, and some great riding roads!

Arnhem area: 370km from the Channel Tunnel and 150 KM from Hook of Holland. Dutch food & beer, lots of sights (including some great museums and a couple of very impressive war cemeteries). The roads are good, but not as interesting as the roads in the Ardennes (better road surfaces, but not as many great curves).

I'll start looking for campsites in the area, and will report back.

Let me know your thoughts on the preferred location!

like it...like it!! Family and work commitment permitting, I would definitely be up for this. Ardennes sounds great:) but I would love the Dutch option just as well, purely on the basis "...been there...." but never really explored the Dutch area you mention.

Thanks J for looking into this .

Either location is good I rode through them a couple of months ago.
Steeped in history which would appeal to the Troops we're all into military history.

Not to put too fine a point on it but I've been told Apeldoorn (<20 miles north of Arnhem) is the wettest place in the Netherlands. ;)

My vote would be Ardennes, if only so I can get the engine warmed up before arriving. :D
