A few of us (the late Frad, Hudders & DC - the girls flew out) went out a few years back, a couple of weeks before the TT started.
We took the slow boat out of Heysham & planned for the fast cat back to Liverpool a few days later.....
That was a fine plan - until the storm hit!
The planned morning fastcat was cancelled and after some deliberation the Steam Racket decided to sail the slow boat to Heysham that evening, so we went for that, boarded and headed out for a somewhat turbulent crossing of the Irish sea, as we neared the mainland (midnight), it was announced that it was too rough to enter port & we were to sail up & down the coast until the weather eases so we can dock (yeah right), after an an hour or two bobbing about, it's announced we were heading back to Douglas!!!!
We arrived in Douglas early morning, rather groggy and around 12 hours after we departed the previous evening - to be told it was calm enough and the fast cat was sailing for Liverpool shortly, we eventually boarded and headed off for a 3rd crossing! After managing to scrounge a couple of full breakfasts each, this crossing was much calmer but the whole fiasco must've cost 'em a fortune...
Sorry about the waffle, it's probably of no help whatsoever!
Enjoy the trip, it's a wonderful place to tour, although how those boys average over 130mph over the 37 and a bit miles is utterly, utterly beyond me.
