Well, I'm finding out for myself now. After a couple of delightful evenkngs with Austin and Anne in Garstang, I'm now avross the border in Dumfries. Austin dragged me along through the Lake District rain before we parted ways in Broughton in Furness. Fine Folks them.

Windy and wet on the Argyll coast, but some fine single track roads. In Oban tonight but dont think proceeding further north is too wise.

I would agree Nick.
Sleet and snow showers here at present with strong winds at high level. We have guys stranded up a hill near Ft Augustas ( albeit 3/4hrs drive off road and in the hill past the Fort ) that can't get down. Cairngorm Mountain Rescue on it's way to see if they can get them off the hill :( Strong winds mean the chopper can't get to them. They are in shelter at the moment but are cut off.
Road wise, supposed to get better tomorrow and the weekend, but the forecasts have been all over the place the last three weeks. Getting sick of this persistent cold weather at present.
Might change tomorrow but I wouldn't bank on it.
But hey, looks good for a decent summer this year :D

Good luck Nick, sorry about the weather. Hasn't been this bad for so long for a number of years :(

With the temperature nudging double figures today you can see why we were all a bit vague about the potential weather !!
I hope your progress back south is "event" free !

No snow in mid Wales but it's a might chilly. Broke 2000 miles on this trip today.

Well done Nick, good amount of miles for the time of year. I think I have just cracked 1000 since October. :(

I would stay west if I were you. The weather forecasters are forecasting "the beast from the east" for next week with the potential for Canadian/Siberian cold and snow on the East side of the country. Good luck.

Im back in Chichester to return the bike after a chilly ride down from Norfolk today. Just over 2500 miles in total. Verdict? The V Strom is a fine, comfortable, capable bike. Riding in the UK is fine as long as you're dressed for it, watch the shady spots and dont try to outrun the snow plough. Not a bad way to spend February :thumbsupanim:
