This time of year is about making plans for the summer. One of them on the list is a visit to Arran, anyone been there, is it worth the trip and do you know of good campsites there? Another thought is a trip to Lewis, same questions apply. :)

Bandit (maurice) lives on Arran. I think he was registered on here. Drop him a pm. I have cross crossed and looped round it twice and stopped for a few nights once. Not many roads but what are there were quite good especially the crests around the north west coast road where I got some very big air.

I have been to Lewis twice. Not much of a spectacular place. The headland at the far north end was good, the black house museum was ok and a few of the beaches were worth a look but otherwise flat, windy and featureless. The best bit is that it is. joined onto Harris. Now that bit of the island is well worth a tour round.

Andy,

I'd be interested in " exploring " Harris, if only for the gin if nothing else :D
Great beaches, but you have to hit it bang on the bob wrt weather conditions.

Wife's favourite Gin is Harris gin. The whisky should be good once its available.

Some pics from Harris......

Hushishnish Beach and a wild(ish) camping spot (so wild I couldnt hold the camera straight).

Stunning beaches a few miles across the moors from the camping spot

There's a campsite in the trees on the other side of the loch - somewhere along the Golden Road on the South East coast of Harris. A great ride and stunning scenery. The big white things are Yurts.

Hi Andy
Austin is correct I live on Arran road wise the main road round the island is approx 56 miles and there are a couple of small roads that cross the island probably about 80 miles of road in total. There are plenty of campsites of varying standards and all the usual tourist stuff distillery, brewery castles, museum and great scenery. Take a look at www.visitarran.com
If you need more info let me know
