I'm after a new kettle for the national. Mines give up the ghost it was a cheap and nasty heavy bulky thing anyway. Been looking at the aluminium quechua. Any better ones out there

Trangia Mike
Tried the tripods, didn't work for me.
I am a lazy sod when it comes to campsite cooking, need all my kit in one place, hence the Trangia :D
Get the teflon pans

 2nd vote from me for the Trangia

After "borrowing" Lowflyers for a Euro trip many years ago, I was sold and got my own set soon after my return, and have since "upgraded" to the coated pans.

Un-like Lowflyer, I went for the light-weight eaters set-up and not the fay boy kit that John has :D

So what's the difference between the 25 and 27 and what's best the spirit burner or gas. I only wanted a kettle and burners now I'm forking out £80+

Tone - Nothing "light-weight" about that beasty.

Mike - 25 / 27 - its a size thing I think . . . . or maybe a weight thing . . . . . maybe?

I tried the spirit burner and got so frustrated with the length of time it took to cook stuff, I nearly took up drinking the meths instead of burning the stuff

Have used the gas burner for years - it's wot Lowflyers set up was when I borrowed it. So I'd say if your going the whole Trangia route, then get a gas burner.

By the way, Trangia do a dedicated kettle for their kit - heats up in no time due to having the heat hitting the bottom and all the sides of the kettle due to the way the kettle sits within the cooking set. Its also an "extra" with most trangia kits

Just my ramblings

The "fat boy" kit isn't that bad :)
I think the difference is in the capacity, one is one man, the other two or above.
Tbh when they are packed away, don't think there is that much difference.
Gas is the way

Have a look at these on eBay mike. Both work really well ( especially kettle)
Pack down small and don't cost a fortune.
Can recommend both.

On the trangia thing, also have a look at a “Trangia Triangle”. Very simple windshield arrangement that takes either the spirit burner or the gas adapter. Kettle of your choice but the Trangia ones are very good.

Tamarack Outdoors here in Garstang has a good range of stoves on display most of the time and are very good with advice based on real life experience. Mike is your man there.

I've got the same burner from Go outdoors, an own branded Vango item. I have similar kettle as part of a powder coated aluminium kit from Gelert that I paid £10 for

Cheers lads I've decided to just get a kettle and burner for now. I just missed out on a trangia set brand new on eBay for £30. I'll keep my eye on them. TBH I don't motorcycle camp enough to justify. We have just got a new 5 man tent and new cooking gear for ourselves.
