For Sale Garmin Montana 600 for sale

Having bought a new Zumo XT my old Garmin Montana 600 needs to be moved on.

I originally bought this in 2012 for my trip to South Africa that year. It was one few sat navs that could take a download of some “Tracks for Africa” mapping I had been recommended for that trip. It’s been back to Garmin a couple of times - where they basically give you a refurbished item in exchange. The last time I did this was 2016 (I think). It’s been 100% reliable since. I’ve added the following maps as official Garmin downloads:
1. Ordnance Survey UK 1:50000 which includes the useful 1:250,000 uk road maps. This is a routable map with poi’s etc and is installed on the devices internal memory. I have a copy on an SD card too but it’s locked to this device.
2. USA lower 49 States
3. Canada which includes Alaska too.
(both these maps are on an SD card installed in the device)
4. Somewhere if I could find the log-in will be the downloads for the Africa Mapping but I really don’t think I could find it as I’ve changed computer, email and had the device refurb’d twice since I downloaded it all.
5. At various times I’ve downloaded the free OpenstreetMap maps for UK and most of Europe. Easy to do once you get your head round it. I’ve deleted all this stuff as it was waaay out of date and took up a lot of memory.

I’m including the Charging bike mount with a RAM ball on a standard RAM mount. I’ve cut all the audio and antenna cables off this leaving just the 12volt supply on a cable about a foot long fitted with a superseal connector as I find these the most reliable way of making connections. I could make up a longer cable if you wanted this. The security screw on the Mount broke years ago so I put a Garmin tether on the device but in tens of thousands of miles it’s never come loose.

I’ve got a spare battery, the original cables, chargers and boxes with instructions for both items. There’s some screen protectors too.

all this has probably cost me in the region of £600 but as this is a bit dated now (no Bluetooth and smallish screen) I think I would like around £175 posted to your door.

There’s nothing wrong with it except in certain conditions the screen gets a bit foggy. You can still see everything fine but I’m not going to not tell you about it. It happens after a cold night in the garage and the device gets in the sun. If there’s no big temperature change it’s all fine. Garmin says it’s perfectly normal. They all do that sir. The screen of course isn’t quite like new but it’s in very good condition.

why am I selling it?. Well, I spotted a deal on the Garmin Zumo XT that was unbeatable. I was about to buy Garmin Euro mapping for £75 but decided I’d be better investing in a whole new device with Bluetooth etc that’s better suited to my needs. The Montana is really an outdoors sat Nav rather than a motorbike one. It’s great for off-road riding so if you are an off road explorer then this could be for you. I found it brilliant when I was doing my Galloway forest trips, although it’s absolutely fine as a road navigator with the right maps (the OS mapping gets too pixelated to be useful in town) so for the uk you do really need either a Garmin map (££) or the free OSM maps, although I’ve mostly managed without either.

if interested let me know and I’ll email pics and more details, although I don’t think I’ve missed anything.

I think it’s fairly priced. It’ll be snapped up on ukgser by someone who needs the USA mapping. Advert to be posted on there in a day or two.

As predicted sold on UKGSer for £200 within a few hours. The guy who bought it wanted it for the tracks for africa which I managed to blag a new updated version of the mapping from the company. Two happy people. That’s the way to do it.
