Had a reply this afternoon apologising for the delay and whilst not agreeing with the appeal they are taking a sympathetic approach to our parking breach. The offer is that I pay a £10 admin fee within 14 days and the matter is closed or pay the £80 charge. I'm happy to go ahead with this. What do others think?

Did they bother to explain the "Motorcycles free, please park considerately" bit?

I feel like fuckin' them off...we've got them on signage and they're just trying to cover their ex's.
I understand that life's too short though.
I'll go with you compliant peasants if that's the verdict.

It seems that there were no specific motorcycle bays, only car and motorhome bays ... which means either that motorcycles can't park there at all, or that motorcycles can park in any bays, as long as they park "considerately". There was nothing on the boards to indicate that the motorhome bays were in some way sacrosanct and not to be used by bikes (or, I assume, cars). Therefore, I don't think the council really has a leg to stand on: their signage is poor but they're just trying to make a bit of money with this "Admin fee", and presumably recover some of their costs in (I reckon fraudulently) issuing the tickets. Typical Town Hall "steal from the motorist" scam.
However, paying the £10 seems the least-painful way to close this matter.
Now if it was cyclists, or drivers of nasty electric cars, that had been shabbily treated like this, the press would be all over them ..........

As one of the lucky 3 that did not get a ticket my opinion may count for nothing, but the fact that the parking warden stopped writing tickets when Kev spoke to him about it seems to indicate a bit of uncertainty on behalf of the official on the rules. If it was blindly obvious that the bikes were breaching the rules he should have put a ticket on ALL the bikes, mine incuded. IMO that seems reason enough to tell them to go away and stop trying to get money under false pretences. Easy for me to say as I did not get a ticket, but if I had I would fight it all the way.

I would really like to hear their justification for the ticketing, given that there were no marked motorcycle bays and (I'm presuming here) that you all took up just one motorhome bay. What did they expect you to do? All park individually in a marked car parking bay?

To be fair Andy,

It was me and Kev who approached him.
He was of the understanding that the bikes weren't connected and I guess the guy was just doing his job. When we explained that it was one group, meeting once a year,he was more laid back and a lot more understanding, thus the exclusion of you and the other guys.
Let's get it into context here, the guy was only doing his job, for all we know he may have had a supervisor hiding in the bushes.
It was he, the warden who told us to appeal, even said they might just charge us a small admin fee , which they did.
He more or less said the signage wasn't correct and to me, he seemed an ok fella.

Ok, the signage wasn't right blah blah, but I for one don't want to get embroiled in a civil court ( been there, done that :( ) for a tenner ???? FFS

Fair enough John, but we could have taken up 9 car spaces which would have lost them more revenue than 1 motorhome space then perhaps they would have said we were not parking "responsibly" and given us tickets anyway. Anyhoo, it's up to you guys whether to pay or not so I will say no more..............;)

Tenner it is then.

Have to admit, it sticks in my craw a bit, cos it's obvious they don't have a case but I really do have bigger fish to fry, I suppose.
Right...Public Inquiry about Camden and their cycle lanes.
