Dirty Roads

Is it me or are the road exceptionally wet and dirty this year. Having real trouble keeping the bike clean.
The engine block has started to oxidise and has crystals growing on it.

P.S
Obviously this post does not concern Vader .

Agree. I think it is, perversely, the drier winter we have been having: no rain to wash the salt and accumulated road dirt off the tarmac. The salt also attracts moisture out the damp grey and misty conditions we have had for several weeks so the roads are damper than they otherwise would be.

I think the trick is to keep it dirty instead. :)

Clean it, then keep it covered in WD40 or whatever, then don't clean it at all throughout the winter. (Or at all, period.)

(Obviously does not apply to stuff like brake discs.)

Aha! a man after my own heart, except that I think I forgot the bit about cleaning it first...

GT85 is better for protection than WD40 as it leaves a light residue. Wetness then seems to bead up on it. WD40 on the other hand is great as a cleaner.

Do you reckon, I always felt the oposite with WD40 leaving an oily residue after a couple of applications & GT85 not so much.
Hey ho, opinions eh [emoji3]

I'm with Phil re the WD40 - GT85 comparison. WD 40 always leaves a noticable residue on the bike after I've covered it with it. I use GT85 on the locks because it doesn't seem to leave that thick a residue.

Just hosed down mine & eldests F8GS's after getting them covered with road a crud & salt mix over an 80 mile loop. Bikes now dripping with WD40 after a wipe down with an oily rag ;)

Nice one Steve.
I'm suffering a bit with that dizzy bug that's on the go just now.

Or it could be the after effects of the Scotland game:D
See how I feel tomorrow

I always soak all the bikes in ACF50, even with this treatment I have had to pressue wash the salt from the brakes and engine s on both Ducati and BMW GSA, the daughters Yam seems to be weathering best with all the salt around.
