Doing some dirt in the Dales

Being the bestest Dad in the world, I bought my sons a days riding at Inch perfect Trials for their birthdays . . . and a day for meself as well, of course, just to keep an eye on them.

Long shlep down from properly “up-north” saw us cover 360 miles to get within spitting distance of the Inch Perfect site.

This was a “comfort” stop for the old man at Langholm :oldman:

I’d booked a pod at the Bowland Wild Boar park . . .

Not that impressed at first sight

The real pod  ;)

Only photo from the days trial riding as it’s fairly full on once you get going. This was taken after our break for lunch.

Absolutely brilliant days entertainment from the whole group, getting excellent instruction from Sarah and her shadowing trainee for the day, Stuart. Neither myself nor my sons had done this sort of riding before and I’ve got to say if you haven’t tried it, give it a go. You’ll work muscles you never knew you had and develop riding skills you never knew you could, if that makes sense! Oh, and electric trials bikes are great.
John, you were missed. You'd have loved it . . . though it may have been a bit sloooow going for you ;), wot with no BRAAAAP ;)

After finishing up at Inch Perfect we headed over to join the throng at the UKGSer meet at Dent, meeting up with our new neighbour there after he had been paying old haunts a visit.

Plenty of blethering later and we are into Saturday. After yesterdays impromptu flying and crashing lessons at Inch Perfect, I managed to convince my boys to tackle the local roads and meeting places, like Tan Hill and Hawes, whilst me and my neighbour went and checked out some local trails :motorcycle:.

1st up, Stalling Busk

No idea why the wall needed a wash down o_O

Then a scenic piccie on our way too . . .

. . . Cam Road High

Popped into Hawes for tea & nibbles after we came off of the Cam road and managed to get the timing just right . . . before the biking hoards from everywhere descended for a brew.

Then it was off towards Kirkby Stephen to ride part of the monument trail.

An excellent days dirt riding following a very skilled practitioner of the art on his old stomping grounds – cheers Paul :respect:

Evenings entertainment at Dent was the raffle – they know how to party these big GS riders .

Me was cream crackered after two days of tackling dirt, plus there was the small matter of the 300 mile ride home the next day . . . mainly in rain, so I took to my bed early :oldman:.

Sunday and we took the scenic roads northwards before and after both Edinburgh and Perth, getting this, my final piccie, as we entered back onto home turf. . .

Approx. 810 miles for me, with slightly more covered by my sons. Fantastic way to spend time with your lads, doing what you all enjoy – riding bikes :respect13: :motorcycle: :respect13:

Nice one Steve. . My sons would rather be seen dead than go on a trip with me. I’ve done something wrong somewhere. They like their sports bikes though and old dad is waaay too slow.

You were in my back yard at inch perfect. Never been though. If I’d known you were about it wouldn’t have made any difference as we were slowly slogging our way up the M5 on Friday on the last leg of our Spain/Portugal trip. Saturday was bike wash and rest day. Hope to get up to Scotland this year. I might even take the bike on the trailer.

Ha ha , cheers Steve, sorry I missed it but as you know, had to look after the strange one after her op. which was , annoyingly brought forward by two weeks.

Looks fabulous --- so much so that I have transferred my slot at Inch Perfect into the end of next month as well as my accommodation in the fancy spooky hotel :D
So I will be heading back down to Englandshire end of the month, hopefully take in a few trails when I'm down there, maybe give Dodd Fell a miss this time ;)
Cracking photos, looks like I missed a good "sesh" by all accounts, hard core boys those UKGSER's !!
Hope the lads enjoyed the experience, you are far too good to them :respect: nice one pops.

Hope the healing is going to plan for the Boss.

Both lads enjoyed the days trial riding - youngest (39) was grinning like the village idiot as we started climbing tracks after doing the basics :). You have to remember that he has done NO off road riding before, so the day was an eye opener for him. He even attempted to duplicate Raymos Superman impression in the afternoon . I managed to persuade both of them to stick to tarred roads on the Saturday, to give my ticker a rest .

Glad you have managed to re-arrange both the bookings . Hope you get Sarah instructing you - worth the fee just to watch her rattling a bike over 6' tree stumps on the back wheel .

Dodd Fell has been graded very recently according to "spookys" friend in Kirkby Stephen - we popped into his bike shop after doing the trails on Saturday. The guy reckons you could drive a car over it now, so maybe not the sort of challenge you enjoy ;)

Talk soon,

when are you down here John? We’ve a few plans and commitments over the summer but let’s try and meet for a bit of a blether if nothing else.

Brilliant stuff Steve
Going to ask them to pair me up with yon French fella Chatagno -- he did very well on an Inch Perfect e bike on the 2022 six days :D, got the Jimmy Beck trophy for best foreigner. :respect:
They must be doing something right, he finished well up.
Historic event for the six days - an e bike in the top twenty, but he is VERY good
Raymo's superman impression will last with me forever, not just once, but I think six or seven ??? p1ssed meself :D

Have a couple of trails I might try when I'm down there.
Might give Dodd Fell a miss :D

Get the craic with you one night

Tisnt the one we did in 2019 - that was the Cam Rd over Dodd Fell . . . but they do both look similar in places, with the bed rock showing through the mud and epic veiws off into the distance :ridebumps:
