Drive Chains

Since I bought my F800GS I have kept a record of the fuel consumption.
Over the last few months I have noticed the consumption jumping around by quite a lot and dropping to the high 50's low 60's.
When the Chain hit 15000 miles it seemed to need more adjustment, at more frequent intervals.
I have just changed to a DID heavy duty X ring chain the first ride on country lanes returned 70 MPG the current average is showing to be 70+ using Main A roads and Dual carriageways.
So if you use the Zebra.com app and notice a drop in fuel economy check the condition of the Drive Chain, it could be on its last legs.

70+ try opening the throttle :D:D. Best I can get out of mine is about 60 mpg. I haven't zeroed the computer since I've had it and it's averaging 58mpg.

The rise in air temperature will also affect your machines fuel consumption.

All my machines have shown an improvement, consumption wise, as we get into the better weather, then start tumbling when the frosts return.

15k miles from the original chain & sprockets aint too shabby. When I sold my F8GS, the C&S had covered 16.k miles under my control and only needed checking after I'd changed a tyre. Plenty of lube :D , thats the answer, never mind what the question is :thumbsupanim:

Sharries Drive chain on her last F800 lasted 25+ still never changed the sprokets after 36 thou. They would have been done this summer if she had not had the new GSA.
I make sure the chain is lubed every two days and it works.

I had two links seize up on the original chain due to insufficient use in bad weather, the chain got rusty.
My point, poorly put is:
If the fuel consumption drops drastically check the chain is correctly adjusted and in good condition.
The DID Chain I fitted in place of the OEM chain is giving better fuel consumption more consistently than I got with the original.
