Ok guys here’s the thing, the forum is slowly dying. There’s a hard core of people who appear but not many. The framework is there, shown by the attendance and enjoyment had at the National.

I keep thinking back to the days of XRV and the banter which helped the site grow. What I considered the core members all came over here.

At the moment the site is making almost nothing from advertising and sponsorship.

So now I come to the point, what can we do to make BigTrailie healthy again? It needs a boost so let us know how we can make it the place to be.

Mike,

I think Faceache has taken most of the regulars off here for what ever reason ?
Steve T, amongst others, has been most prolific in ride reports etc over the past year and good on him for doing that. :respect:

I think you are quite right in bringing this up.

Our XRV following, in it's day, was the best by a long way, and all the friends I have made during my association with XRV are still very very good friends. As you quite rightly say, the National was attended by a few of the regulars, but even then, possibly due to the current climate, was well short on previous years ( no pun intended Hudders :cool2: )
I don't know what the answer is. There are many other forums out there and I suspect the likes of ADV have taken a few of our guys away, and ADV looks to be flourishing by all accounts.
I go out most Sundays, I will resolve to make a few road reports if that will help, but I don't think my feeble attempt at writing a RR will help, but I'll give it a go.

Good luck Mike

I've just paid my subscription. I don't come here as often as I should. But if this place closed down if be devastated. As John said a lot of good friends on here. I call them my once a year mates but we do have banter on FB. I'll try and make more of an effort. Got to use the bike more too.

I am overwhelmed but not sure what to say.

I have found the rattle on my africa twin, been pissing me off for ages
Number plate is held on with 2 bolts and the bottom flaps against the mudguard.

Been great fun and meeting people here over the years. Happy to try more input and organise a weekend next year. ABR forum has gone a bit low key as well. Local TRF group has loads of members but not much on the riding front so maybe autumn blues along with covid is having an impact? Never got to the Stella or the TT this year. Highlight for riding was a couple of crackin weekends up north and the SW TET.

Any extra input has to help, we need to try and get involvement back. I know I’m as bad. SteveT is doing his bit we just need to help.

In my opinion Facebook is where most users, old & new, seem to spend most of their time. Not being a mobile phone or Facebook user means that I only access tinternet via a PC/laptop at home, hence my drivel ends up on this site .

Any forum that also runs a social media type site as well as an internet based site will, to my mind, go the same way as this place is going.

Just my mutterings, as usual, so please take them as you will. I'll continue to pump out words and piccies on here for as long as I'm able and the site exists.

I not a great fb fan, read this site mostly from mobile. There is so much shite on fb.

Lol, perhaps its an old fart thing.

Keep posting the reports.

I got a small camcorder, partly to record some rides, but the computer can't handle the processing.

An interesting & timely post Mike,
The days of XRV were just the best - banter, laughs & ride outs both near and far and even the odd shandy for good measure.

Due to various reasons my biking mileage is less than 1/10th of what it once was, bike meddling time even less than that! heck, the Transalp hasn't been on the road for over 3 years (I think it is...)

It was a shame when the Welsh invasion vanished - we all appreciate the time and commitment of organising such events, particularly with quite fluid numbers of attendees.

Despite the general lack of traffic on here for quite some time, it would be a shame to lose Big Trailie (failing that, revert back to xrv...?) even if it's main purpose is a platform for the National.

Big up for SteveT and his persistence [emoji3]

Thanks everyone and especially Mike for posting up didnt know you’d done that.
Really appreciate everyone chipping in with the subs. Thank you so much.
I’ll perhaps do a subs thread so that we can all see where we are.

I don't do face ache or any of that stuff (never have) but even so I tend to drift in and out of here. Personally I like this forum but I haven't had a lot to post most of this year due to concentrating on standing on one leg

If I ever get riding again I will try to get some ride reports in. I must admit that whatsApp seems to be my go to place nowadays :buttkick:

Would it help with engagement if there was a regular emailed reminder of what's going on with the site? So say a weekly diary of posts?

I haven't been here in ages. I also haven't been biking in a long time, various life things getting in the way.

I miss the old days of XRV and regular meet-ups. Two, three, sometimes four meet-ups a year was common, great times that.

I have also just paid the subs to help out and feel quite embarrassed that I haven't kept up with the subs but just completely forgot about it.

I really wish XRV had never been sold, or whatever it was that happened to it. Anyone remember Kimmy or was it Kymmy? I hated that bitch. :D

Totally agree with ya. XRV good old days. But still a great bunch of lads here. We just need more meet ups. Or see what the lads on XRV are doing and join up. We miss you Derek and Stuart at the meets. Although stuart did turn up at the last one for a few beers.

I actually nearly made the last one with Stuart. We chatted on the phone about coming over but I ended up not being able to make it as Ellie had some appointments. I remember him saying he was turning up for one night as he had another something or other on.

I came so close to making it! :D
