Honda Blackbird????

a friend of mine has offered me his Honda Blackbird for sale. It’s a 1997 with 17,000 miles and the last time I saw it it was immaculate with a few sensible upgrades. He wants £2,500 for it. It seems like a lot of bike for the money. He has barely ridden it in the past few years if at all. (He also has a Gs1200, triumph explorer1200, SP2 and a GSX1400 - all these night ne for sale soon too).

While I don’t need a Blackbird i do fancy experiencing the power and speed. I would sell the speed triple I have in the garage that is unused. What do you reckon? A good buy and what should I be looking for.

Never owned one but have ridden a couple. Very fast, stable and comfortable. A lot of bike for the money. However I found it a bit too efficient bought a ZX12 instead.
I know lots of people with them and they're bloody good bike's, you won't be sorry.

Its a well built Honda model. At that age look under the shiney paintwork. Steering head bearings, tired suspension, bearing play, wheels true, chain and sprockets. The usual stuff. If its been well looked after..... two and half grand for a 180mph missile aint bad that wont lose any/much money! Now an SP2...yes please

One of my engineers had one, loved it big time. Lot of power in them ponies :)
For the candy asked, good deal I would think.

I am giving this serious thought. My mate has a fancy storage system that lifts the bikes on ramps up into the roof void of his garage. The Blackbird is at the back and it’s a palaver to get it out. (He has a TVR and a caterham7 on the ramp system too - yup he has had some money in his life). I need to see it and give it a good poke and shake before umming and aaahing properly over this one.

I will ask about the SP2 too. The last time he had that out the ground shook when he went past. It sounds fan-bloody-tastic.

Is anyone interested in my Triumph Speed Triple 955i. Generally good nick, the only issue is the nose cone bosses are bust. It’s cable tied on now. Could do with a rear tyre soonish. I was thinking about £2200 ono.

I went to look at it today and took it up and down a short stretch of road. Umm, 100mph+ in 3rd I think without trying. It is in decent condition, unused for 3 years, just a tiny bit of corrosion on the fork legs and a couple of other exposed alloys. Double bubble screen, bar risers, upgraded forks and shocks, gold painted wheels, and a couple of other doo-dahs. A decent bit of history before it came into my mate's possession in 2008. He has hardly used it. I think I am going to buy it. No rush as he isn't planning to advertise until March. The Speed Triple is definitely up for sale and will go on here with pics as well UKGSer shortly.

I also poked about his Honda sP2. WOW what a bike. A work of art and one of the meanest looking machines I have seen. I don't think he has used that one in 5 years as their is no way he could sit on it now (knackered hips and knees). He is after £7500 for it. If anyone is interested I can get photos and more details.

In the meantime here's the Blackbird....

In the end I decided not to buy it. I took my speed triple out a couple of times and liked it more than I did the blackbird. Plus I reckon the BB would a licence looser.

My mate put the BB on UKGSer for sale and sold it the next day.
