Imagine my surprise...

... pulling the bike out of the garage this morning, I found a spoke from my xt1200z lying on the drive.

Not good.

The bike currently has Stainless spokes fitted by DaveS, the spoke in question seems to have snapped at the "fixed" end, and looks to have slid out of the "adjusting" end.... pardon my terminology.

I have the original spokes (somewhere), would it be safe to replace the single spoke with original? It would certainly be a cheaper option than a full wheel rebuild etc.

"If" this is doable, is it possible to simply slip a single spoke in to place with wheel built... keeping in mind the bike has tubeless tyres, the spokes fit to the "outside" of the outer rim, rather than through the rim.... and "if" this is possible, does it need any specific torque settings etc?

If it can fall out that easy, it should go back in. I'd say it's temporary using an original one, better to get a matching one. I usually tighten them up by ear, use a screwdriver or something to hit various spokes and tighten until they all sound the same.

Chris, try Hagon for stainless spokes, I am sure they can supply one or two spokes instead of buying a complete set. The guy I dealt with in their wheel department was very helpful.

While I'm all for a repair using a single spoke, I have concerns of whether this one broken spoke is a isolated issue or if the others should be closely inspected. Can't be to careful. Tiggs
