Just to let the Scots know that there is a fair to middling chance that the first week in September will see me and the Memsahib in Oban - she's got a conference to go to and I'm the transport :iconmrgreen:. More details soon.........

Tony, you do know that September is National time and most of us will probably be down south somewhere, that is if someone picks a venue.

I'll be in France first week of September, I can't even wave to you as our ferries won't pass each other :D

More details nearer the time and as long as it doesn't clash with a very special annual date (wedding anniversary) I should be here or here-abouts.

Hi Tony,

Give us a bell nearer the time, I'll pm you my mob number as you may have my old one.
Be good to catch up along the way

Right, had a check and the conference is on from Wednesday the 6th to Friday the 8th of September. If anyone is interested, it's the Advances in Marine Biogeochemistry Conference VIII at SAMS (Scottish Association for Marine Science) in Oban.

It's not certain, but likely, that we''l be over before the conference - so very late August or early September.

So, that's the plan so far. It might, and probably will, change but hopefully not too much.

Why don't we just have the National there ;)
There is a small campsite that LWR has used in the past that, whilst a little way from Oban, is still well located for many scenic rides!
Though they, the site owners, might not take to a drunken BT national!

I'll pop up a link when I find it

I stayed at a campsite just outside Oban many many years ago, they certainly weren't biker friendly as I recall. Not sure of its name or if it's still on the go.

Probably the Camping and Caravan club site. I think I stayed there also many many moons ago. Nice spot but blighted by rules and people who like rules.

Edit....Nope, just looked it up, it was Oban Caravan Park we stayed at. I also just chatted to Anne about when we went there - it was 1981 apparently.:( Seems like yesterday.

Double edit.....I did stay at Torran Bay Hostel a couple of months ago. It also has a campsite and is about 20miles south of Oban. No pub shop or anything much nearby except miles and miles of Loch Awe and the lovely roads around it. But does give the option of Hostel accommodation if required. I did ask the owner (a very nice farmer with a strong vision for his village and area) about hosting bike meets. He was well up for it even when I outlined a proclivity for drunkenness and fires.
