Sena SMH5 BT headset Battery

If you have a Sena SMH5 (and possibly other sena headsets) it is likely that the first thing to fail on it will be the battery. Mine did, although leaving it overnight in a puddle of water didn't help. Sena don't do replacements and after lots of searches looking for equivalents I found a seller on Ebay Hong Kong selling them as direct replacements. It arrived the other day and is plug and play. It has resolved several issues I was having with my headset :)

Thanks for the link Austin, I have had the same headset for a few years so knowing where to buy a new battery if it fails is good news. :thumbsupanim:

It took a few weeks to arrive but no import duties or anything. The little T7 screwdriver is handy too.

Same for SMH-10

I couldn't get a plug and play replacement but was able to find one that I could just solder the connector off the old one onto and works a treat

I tried that first but a battery of exactly the right dimensions isn't available. A drone battery was a close fit but just 1 mm too thick meant I couldn't close the cover.

I must have a good 'un then, it's over 5 years old now, been in two big crashes and still fine. Though in one spot it's ground down a bit so not quite sure it's still 100% waterproof. Value for money. :D

Still. Linky saved for just in case.

Well my headset died again today. I was swapping it over to my new helmet, dropped it and it skittered across the worktop. It won't switch on now and won't charge either. I took the back off again and all looks good. Its possible the battery, I was eulogising about, is not as good as it seemed or more likely the circuit board isn't good. This all goes back to a night in the Teton Mountains in Wyoming when I left my helmet in the tent porch, it rained, the door wasn't zipped up properly and I awoke to a helmet on its side with the headset under water.

I am going to buy another as I am fed up of all the issues I have had. When Sena units work they are fab - the best of 3 types I have tried. The wife's has been faultless.
