Does anyone fancy a irregular regular meet up in search of the perfect pie. It could be a pork pie in a deli, or pies peas and mash in a pub, market or wherever, the point being an irregular regular meet up to ride to somewhere selling extraordinary good pies, sampling the wares and perhaps a couple of halves of beer or some builders tea, a good natter, and a ride home.

Happy for mid-week a-la Gentlemen do lunch meets or weekend (Sunday?) meets.

Down the road from me is the best pork pie you will ever have - Hamlets butchers. Hamlets-Butchers-1077086405716310 I will bring some samples to the first meeting.

And the best pub pie I have had to date is at the Shepherds rest in near Todmorden Shepherds Rest » Todmorden. Pies only cooked to order and an amazing view across the moors and up Calderdale.

Has anyone else any recommendations or a fancy a meet to try pies out. Will travel 3-4 hours each way in search a good pie. First meet at the Shepherds rest to set a benchmark.

I dunno how you think 'em up Austin but as long as you do it's fine by me [emoji2]

Time is rather limited at the mo but hopefully, I'll be able to swing a pie run.

Lochinver pie shop ?

Don't think I would shell out that sort of cash for a pie.
Tried the venison one once --- was ok .

I can make mid wales reasonably easily if its doable for others.
Would be great to see everyone again.

Indeed it would. I think I last saw you in 2009(?) at Ullapool and that was briefly. I think the first BT Pie meet will need to be in Mid-wales/Borders soonish. Better make it a weekend for the first one too.

here's a starter....
15 mouthwatering pies you can eat in Wales
edit, they all a bit cardiff/newport/swansea centred.

Theres a wonderful deli right in the centre of Selkirk by the monument, if the pies are anything like the rest of their food, it will be worth trying.
Won't be much of a ride out for Andy mind.

Now this is something I would seriously think of attending.

I love my steak pies, steak and ale etc and whenever I go on me jolly's I more often than not opt for a good steak pie in the pub grub menu.
I have to say, being a true Teuchter that I am, I find the pies down south are far better than the ones up here --- just an opinion you understand.;)

Sooo, I take it this will run into next year ? if so, I'll give it a bash :respect13:

Maybe this belongs in General Chat, but ---

How would you heat a pie right through (normal 100mm dia. type pie that usually oozes fluid as you heat it) using normal camp cooking kit ??
I know the thread is probably more intent on eat it hot at the pub or bakers , but ----

" The Scottish Bakers" have just had their annual Best Pie competition with the winners announced in Jan 18.
Categories are - Scotch Pie, Football Pies & Savouries, Macaroni Pie, Steak Pie, Sausage Roll, Cold Savoury, Hot Savoury, Vegetarian Savoury, Haggis Savoury, Bridie, Apple Pie (I assume this latter is to help with getting 5 portions of fruit a day).
Steak pies includes a separate section for Hand Held Steak pies.
Just in case you want to focus on one type of pie !
The winner of the Scotch Pie section is named World Champion Pie Maker.

To avoid confusion there is a completely separate annual championship for Steak Pies produced by Scottish Butchers. These pies form the staple diet of all right minded people on New Year's. Day.
