Thursday rideout (National 2015)

Not sure how many will be there Wednesday night, early Thursday, but I have a little ride planned for the day on Thursday 10th, if anyone fancies it.

We'd need to be leaving by about 10am. The plan is to wind our way to the South Downs National Park and take in the A272 past the Meon Hut (near Loomies), which is a biker favourite, then down the A32, which is also a good road. We'll stop for lunch in the Queens Head in Tichfield to wish my dad a happy 79th birthday.

The return is a little shorter, taking in at quick stop at Winchester Cathedral, then through Nether, Middle and Over Wallop, followed by Palestine (Hamas does not control this one). It's about 80 miles in the morning and 60 in the afternoon.

Happy to tweak the route a bit if there's anything anyone particularly wants to visit on the way. We can always go and have an ice cream by the sea too, as it is very nearby.

Sounds fun.

Your route sort of looks like Italy. :)
I shall forever be playing second fiddle to Vader and only be famous for the trains running on time.

Yeah*

(*) The obligatory joke I think would be that the food is better... But A I'd break his heart, B he's a pretty decent cook allright and C I'd still like a curry sometime next week. There's the obvious fallback of the superior Italian fashion sense, but while it's not a high bar I've seen some of your outfits, so, yeah, sorry. Trains it is. :D :D :D :D

There, that went off the track quickly. Big Trailie, we ride bikes, if we're not too busy taking the piss.

Could do that, but I really want to say happy birthday to my dad so came up with a route that incorporated that. Also more folks arrive Thursday so that is a possibility on Friday - along with Beaulieu, now the old bisexual has died (his legal case changed the law).

If anyone is interested I can put a easy riding route together and print out A4 maps which includes easy lanes. I will be there but not riding coz of my ankle. Let me know if keen as I will not bother if no one is too fussed. Loads of easy lanes for big trailies (see the test weekend pics a couple of months back). Alternatively bring a OS Landranger Swindon/Devizes and Salisbury and the Plain and I can mark your maps up for the weekend or future use.

I have the last one you did on my Garmin so happy to try to follow pretty much the same route. I will bring my Salisbury Plain map too (bought after the last time I was on there and none of us had a map - and the police were none too happy it).

Nice one Chris. OS 173 is a good one to add (Swindon Devizes) to your 184 and also 174 (Newbury) would cover the area well. Loads of Byways to choose but not all suitable for big trailies. The long one just to the south of the campsite is badly rutted but further down south of Everleigh (Old Marlborugh Road) is a cracker for the biguns (we did it last time). I'll check if the army are playing in the vicinity over the weekend. DC has ordered good weather..hoorah

Somewhat envious of the ride outs......I'm planning on arriving on the Friday - by car because of my green laning injuries..... but what I'm unclear about is whether I should be booking my tent pitch before hand, or if I just turn up? And I see that food is available at the Bruce Arms Saturday - but am I supposed to book it in advance?

Can anyone clarify for me please?

thanks

Meesh

When are you getting there? If you're there by Wednesday lunchtime we could always get our tents up then shoot down for the afternoon. :thumbsupanim:
