Took a run up north . . . . . for a change

Not been under canvas since May, so late Friday afternoon decided to head north, just cos I could :D

Had planned to wild camp but couldn’t think of anywhere suitable on my planned route, so Durness campsite it was for the night.

Some photo’s from my journey north, in varied weather (meaning rain and sun in varying amounts – fortunately mainly sun)

Found an open gate :motorcycle: and wanderer as far as the stalkers landrover  . . . .

Quite-ish night followed by an early start – here’s my breakfast welcoming the dawn

Had the road virtually to myself, so I put-put-putted along taking in the growing rays of the sun on the various hills I rode past.

Enjoyed a game of chase with some sports bikes that set off from Durness after me – they over-took me, then slowed down to allow a mate to catch up, so I over took them. Then they whizzed past me again when their mate had caught them up. I tootled on, stopping for photo’s here and there, only to have them wiz past me again when I stopped to take this photo at Gruinard Bay. Caught up with them again at Aultbae where they were having a fag next to the NATO fuelling dump!

Finally a local attraction with a rainbow - Dallas Dhu distillery

Fantastic 24hrs out of the house, covering a little over 400 miles, with the Strom averaging over 65mpg – I must have been going reet slow – moving average speed for the whole trip was just under 43mph, so not that slow really

A nice little trip there Steve. Is the Durness campsite still properly open?

What do you know about Joint Warrior? It started this weekend and from what I have read it looks like a big 'un, although it could all be out at sea.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Austin,

The campsite is fully open - there is a small area that is roped off just now due to water-logging.

I have looked at the gun-facts sheet and there doesn't seem to be much activity - see page 12 on the web page linked below:-

For my money, I look at popping up for the 9 & 10th when D802 is in operation. I took a detour to the beach yesterday morning on my way sooth and there were NO tracks across the beach. Maybe there will be by tomorrow o_O

I tried contacting "my man" Andy late on Friday, but he was out. I'll try again and get back to you. I'd be up a few days up north . . . . . again :thumbsupanim:, and if the action aint up to much, we could go play

I'll be in touch.

I will have to give it a miss Steve. Beating on the posh shoot I go to starts tomorrow and then every Tuesday and Wednesday to the end if season. If I keep going and don't miss I get some shooting towards the end of the season as we'll as a mega beaters day.

Brilliant Steve,

You got the best of the weather.
But Friday ???

Next year boyo, next year :thumbsup:

Was planning on taking Steph out for an overnighter but the weather was so changeable :(
Anyways, decided to watch the Camanachd Cup final , Shinty to you boys down south ( a bit like what you guys call Hockey --- only we can raise the stick above our waists :D )
Bit of a bruising game, but entertaining none the less. The only sport I can see where the supporters were sharing a bottle of amber nectar behind the goals, saw it on the TV coverage :respect::D

Sorry Steve, can't get the time off work for D802 just now, rapidly running out of my leave allocation :(

But next year -- LOOK OUT :D:D

Next Monday I need to be in Sarf Wales to send off yet another brother-in-law - 3rd one in 4 years to cancer  :(, so I'm out as well.

Friday John, cos I had a severe attack of the wobblies week before last and by Friday last week I was going stir crazy . . . . . . and the world had stopped spinning enough for me to get back on it and go for a ride. Of course, a night under canvas and the limited head height of a tent had me doing a James Gallway impression for a brief minute or two .

Still feeling the effects occasionally, so here's hoping I'm clear of it by next weekend o_O

Christ Steve,

That's not so good, I have two mates and a work colleague diagnosed with the big C.
Makes you think doesn't it ?

I too suffered from the wobblies after the game
But mine involved a few large drams.

Hope you get sorted soon.
