WELSH INVASION 2018

On another thread I asked about next years invasion and what people thought. There were very few replies which makes me wonder if there's still enough interest in a meet up to continue. I know I didn't put dates but only three people responded in a positive manner. I don't mind looking for places but it's a lot of work to take on if there's little support.

So it's down to you guys. Yes or no.

I am interested and will come if you avoid the one weekend in March I am currently already booked up for.

I do think we need a change of location and/or new places of interest for Saturday rideouts I would camp as long as it’s not a very soggy very wet field (rain is fine, it’s mud that gets me). Huts etc also good. Remote is as good as a town centre location.

However if you don’t get 10 or more enthusiastic replies in the next couple of weeks I personally either wouldn’t bother. I do think this forum is in its death throes however and the lack of interest in even replying is indicative of that. How many views on this thread?

Other options might be to open up to another group or forum, or go for a completely different location to try and drum interest.

I guess the lack of response is a sign of the times, unfortunately....
I give this event (and others) my support, even if I am only a 'maybe'.
I did throw in a possible alternative on the other thread with no positive response.
I for one wouldn't be interested in riding a few hundred miles in cold/wet/sleet to then pitch a tent, to spend the evening trudging round a boggy wet field & paying for the pleasure.

Dunno what to suggest, it seems people have generally moved on...?

To be honest in February/march I didn't really consider camping, it's going to be hard enough finding somewhere suitable never mind with a campsite attached. I did respond to your suggestion, where you suggested was in the peaks if I've got the right place. Not really a Welsh invasion then .

I'm losing the will here. I've found a few places I can post links if needed. Unfortunately in a bunkhouse we' ll need a reasonable turnout to make it viable. I would say a minimum of 10/12 people.

I've just got a new bike sorted so hopefully start to go to some do's again, the only thing holding me back is my commitment to Ellie as she takes a lot of looking after but I'm determined to start biking again!

I've got the shed (workshop) sorted now and the Guzzi runs (as of today) as sweet as a nut!

Derek and myself are going to start going on Sunday runs to get back into the swing of being on the bikes again as he's also lapsed as of late. I've got some more owrk to do on the fencing to make the bike totally accessible but shouldn't be a massive job.

These here parts are struggling. I am sure if it were on ABR forum and or XRV it would be a success. Thanks for your efforts Mike and I am still game (apart from 20th Jan for a week!).

I, along with my family, will be invading Wales on Feb 3rd

Look out Cardiff, here we come :respect13:

As Tony says Mike, thanks for putting the time in.
Myself and Rick were planning it one year, but what with one thing and another, never happened :(

Hope you get it sorted.

Use the Facebook group to publicise it. I only pop in here every now and then and I have not logged in to XRV since they lost all my personal details and never told me - I go an email from Amazon telling me. I'd be up for it. Am I allowed to come on my 250?

For a number of reasons I didn't attend the ABR Yuletide Rally in Devon this weekend but having been in touch with one of the organisers they didn't have the turnout they normally get. Not really sure as to the future of forum based 'clubs' , I've not done anything this year as I've joined a local Police Bike club and even that suffers apathy with only a core of 12-15 members out of 45 regularly being active. I didn't attend or see a write up about the camping pod weekend, was that not a success? Whilst accommodation is not a major issue there is definitely a need for a communal room.

Just seen a link to this forum. Sorry not used it for a long time and had forgotten about it to be honest. Don't really go on abr either. Lot of keyboard warriors lurking.

Anyway if dates work out I would like to come along. Either xrv750 or ktm690.

Thanks Phil

It is hard to meet everyone's different needs.

I organise one every April/May on ABR and XRV at Haggsbank bunkhouse near Alston in Cumbria. This was a quickly put together affair after the Boil rally was cancelled in 2015 and has run for the last 2 years.

Danny the owner will stock up his beer fridge and food for breakfasts and meals but he's got to be sure he's going to get that outlay back. He'll put up a marquee for inclement weather and get firewood in for the camp fire and book a live musician. All at his cost with no guarantee of repayment if only a few turn up.

So I ask for a few quid extra per night on top of his pitch and bunk charges for the deposit and people moan like f***. So I think "Sod this I won't bother. You won't commit to a few extra quid but if the weather is nice you'll turn up on your 12 grand bike expecting beer, food, fire, music and bloody dancing girls! F*** right off"

There a few regulars who turn up to these whatever the weather. There are too many fair weather twat heads who want it all but want someone else to organise it for them if they feel like turning up.

I know Devon John who organises the Ecky Thump and Yuletide rallies on ABR puts a lot of hard work in and you get a lot when you attend. But I wonder if we'll keep doing it due to the antipathy of most forum members

Yep agreed John.

I remember all the great meets I’ve been on, fantastic memories have been made.
Anyone organising anything needs a medal.

My commitment this year is tentative; am moving house expected Feb/March 18 and the GS went to a new owner recently. Once I'm settled the Long-haired General WILL be approving the purchase of a new Steed (fingers crossed AT Adv) and I'll be back in the mix. Agree with the camping reluctance but reckon it either stays in Wales or gets renamed the (County name) Invasion. I think there's life in the group yet, just needs perhaps reinvigorating.

Oh, I said 'tentative' because, depending on dates, I might be able to come in the van and assist with Admin. Probably in the bar.
