Hi , I have just acquired a 08 Transalp with only 6000 miles on clock, pleased up to now but concerned about wheel shimmy, hands off about 30 mph it violently shakes its head, new tyres conti attack 3, balanced correctly can't find out why, any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There can be a number of reasons for the "wobble".

Are the tyres properly seated on the rims - particularly the front tyre? There's a fine line moulded into the tyre and this should be visible just above the rim and the same distance from the rim the whole way round.

Are the tyre pressures correct, both front and back?

Is the bike fitted with a top-box? Though this usually causes a problem at higher speeds.

With such a low mileage bike, I cannot see it being anything as drastic as the head bearings.

Hi, tyres seem ok it had Dunlop on when I got it and it was worse then, I thought new tyres might cure it. Can't feel any play in head bearings.

Don't let go the handlebars! Some bikes yes, some bikes no, some tyres yes, some tyres no. You could spend a lot of money trying to cure a problem that's no big deal, just don't let go the bars!
This can come from the front or back, weight pressing on the headstock can amplify wobble from the back.
I couldn't tell you if mine shakes its head or not, don't remember letting go the bars! TKC's probably cuse vibration so I'll stick to keeping a hold of the bars!

Hmmm never thought of that, still feel it a bit one handed, suppose I will live with it for now.
