Nice going Andy.

There is a certain satisfaction of getting the beast fired up after you've dis-embowled it then stuck it all back together :thumbsupanim:

And don't worry about the left over bits & bobs, they'll come in handy for yer next project

Great stuff.

Having the bike fire up after such extensive work is a real buzz.

Good news, the paint man came back. :) All painted now, just needs the laquer given a final polish with the buffing machine but I will need to take it back for him to do it as it is best done on the bike to stop the plastic bits from flexing.

I will take some better pictures outside using my camera as the phone is not to clever for pics. It was a bit of a fight to get the silencers to fit properly as they are not the right type for this model, correct ones are out there......at £200 a side!
Anyway, after a few deft hammer blows they fit now. :) The bike will not be on the road for a couple of weeks yet as I am waiting until the BMW insurance runs out to put both bikes on the same policy which will save quite a bit of cash.

The eagle eyed will notice the discolouration on the downpipe caused by my own stupidity. Had the bike running on the sidestand and was round the left side looking at a casing when I smelled something hot, I had only left a microfibre cloth hanging on the right bar and it had fallen of and melted on the exhaust pipe! Must have taken me at least 45 mins to polish the shit off the pipe, but all is well now. Note to self........keep microfibre cloths the hell away from hot things.

Took the bike for MOT today, sailed through with just 1 advisory for noisy exhaust, to be honest it does bark a bit as there is not too much in the way of baffles in the megs. Only done 35 miles on it so far, but it rides much better with decent tyres and new shocks. Sorry there are no pics, forgot the camera.

Congrats on the MOT, Andy. Shame about the lack of photos though.

I went out with the XBR today for it's first real run since putting it all together and getting it all legal like.

Taking the A708 by way of St Mary's Loch heading towards Moffat I stopped at the cafe but there was nobody there, on bikes that is.

Onwards up to Moffat, avoiding wandering sheep and lambs, the odd motorhome and bits of gravel on the road I stopped for a fag at the Devil's Beeftub.

From there it was a steady run down the A701 and A72 through Peebles and home. After getting home and checking that nothing had fell off, nothing was leaking I pronounced the bike fit for purpose and put it back inside the workshop. :) It will need a good wash as there seems to be a lot of dust and bugs about, is this a sign of summer?

It was the ashes of the Labour Party and Liberal Democrats in Scotland.

Well, you had better weather than over here as its pished it down for most of the day. Lucky you.

What's the riding position like? Not too uncomfortable for your old bones? :D

Well, to be honest, after the BMW it feels a bit restrictive, but having done just over 100 miles today I can still walk! ;) I will say that probably 60 miles in one go would be enough for me, but I can always stop for a fag/picture to break up the journey.

Man that reminds me...

My dad told me his old CB is mine if I want it. 500 four, and I'm 6'5.
I already got knee trouble within 30 minutes riding it last time, and last time I was 29. That was a decade ago. :eekicon:

But it's tempting, as it sounds so nice when you get it over 7000 rpm. :D

Still got the XBR500? I recently brought one and have decided to take the fairing off and make it naked. I found a set of headlamp ears to fit the original headlight that was in the fairing onto the forks. The fairing came off easily the stubbon nuts all loosened with a dose of WD40.
IMG_8431.JPG

Now to sort the electrics out! They worked with the fairing on but some bits have been lengthened or shortened (possibly). I have a wiring diagram (page 1-9) and wiring layout (page 1-12) from the workshop manual which shows all the front loom neatly packed into the headlight shell. I can get the loom in if I leave the headlight out! During your rebuild did you take any colour pictures of the inside of the headlight with the loom, if I can see the positions of the connectors& their colours it may help me to pack the light shell correctly.
