Stuarts wife was done on A3 (11.7x16.5 inches), that is my preferred size to work on. It's large enough to fit a decent sized drawing on but not too large that the paper is hard to handle.
Tommy in colour was done on a new vellum paper (10x14 inches) that is somewhere between A4/A3. Not really big enough for a protrait which is why it was orientated into landscape.
I did try some huge paper to do a double portrait on (that I may still finish, but just wasn't feeling it) but the paper was just so big it was very difficult to work with. It was 19x24 inches, I may simply cut it in half and use as 2 sheets.
