It's certainly not the busiest it's ever been, that's for certain.

Well we can't have that.

I was out briefly today for a 60 mile loop. There was a thin skim on some of the ponds, but the main lakes are still unfrozen. Nice day.

Then, if you're still bored, you can see what the Trans-Labrador Highway used to look like a couple of years ago. Sadly, it's mostly paved now.

Lovley old bike!

Speaking of Guzzis, I'm off to testdrive a Cali 1400 on friday.
Might exchange my Heritage for a 2014 California.
I have been without a Guzzi for to long now.

My excuse is that I've been decorating for a few weeks......can't complain too much as my wife took me out for a nice pub lunch yesterday as a "thank you". But it looks as though the dry weather's been and gone now, so I'll not get to use the bike much :(

We returned from 14 weeks travelling the day before the national started and tbh the option of sleeping in my own bed vs camping with you lot won out. I'm an anti-social git I know :)

I guess it's been a busy year for everyone? I certainly find I don't get as much time off the work treadmill for catching up on the daily/weekly chatter...... That's why the main events like the National and Welsh Invasion are so important for catching up with friends.

I test rode a Suzuki VStrom 1000 last week. Rather nice. Compared with my 10-year-old, 67k miles Varadero it felt rather sharp, but probably any bike would!!! The throttle response is crisp, though on a short run I didn't get the hang of maintaining a steady throttle on bumpy surfaces, LOL. Sharp cornering too, mainly due to a firm front suspension that constantly sent road vibrations through the wrists. Saddle was okay. Nice range of factory options too. I'm looking for something a bit lighter than the Varadero, and the basic VStrom is a reasonable 228 kg at the kerb.

In a week or two I'll give the new Crossrunner a go. Weighing 242 kg at the kerb the Crossrunner looks a bit heavy (on paper). Maybe I should give the new Africa Twin a chance since it weighs only a tad more than the VStrom (232 kg kerbside).

Maybe the obvious alternative is the VStrom 650. It's only 215 kg kerbside, and 650 cc is adequate for me. Not sure with a pillion and/or luggage though! Again, loads of factory options. I can't make my mind up about F800GS and Tiger 800. Thoughts?

Just making conversation.

Phil has a Wee-Strom and rather rates it. Not sure what his thoughts are on the fully loaded with pillion and luggage though.

I've not had a pillion on the 650 strom yet (something to do with a baby....), I'm sure it'll be fine 2up as it has oodles more torque/power/stability than the 650 Alp which, lets face it had plenty of loaded 2up work.
In recent times I've had the Vara, Crossrunner & ridden mateys 800Tiger quite a bit, each great bikes in their own way.

BUT

If I was buying again, I'd still go for the 650 vstrom as it does everything I want - brilliantly, without the weight or sub 50s mpg.

DC's been spared this time, it was my turn to fall off for a change. You're welcome. ;)

Time flies. How the hell did it get to be late november already?
