Last minute meet up today with a mate from Somerset, so we met at Stonehenge and decided to visit The Bruce Arms to check it out and have lunch there. We had good sized lunch for £7.50 (fish and chips & ham, egg and chips).
Out the back of the pub is a small car park and then the camping field - a flat, well-drained rectangle. Camping is £5 a night per person. We'd easily get 40 or so of us - what we had this year - but it might get a bit of a squeeze if numbers grow way beyond that. He said there was sometimes a problem with people bringing massive tents and he was thinking of charging a "bedroom tax" for those
. I didn't ask about sofas
.
There are several electricity hook-ups and the landlord can put up a small marquee if we want it. In the pub is a games room and we can take that over if it's peeing down, or to put on a band. He can also do a communal dinner - chilli con carne or something like that - if we want it. He does breakfasts, but I forgot to ask how much. Nice beer. There's wifi. There was a vodafone signal for calls but not data.
The local roads are great. Stonehenge is 30 minutes away. There are loads of other monuments and plenty of good places to visit that would involve long, winding roads. Green lanes and Salisbury Plain are very close.
I had a quick look at the toilets, which are clean and newish, but I think there are only two showers, which might be an issue.
I've got the guy's details so if we want to book this place let me know. If we were to get a lot more people I am sure we could sort out some portable shower units/toilets.
