did Whealie make it? is there carnage on the Plain?
Too easy to get legless?boboneleg said:but being pissed on crutches is not a good idea
Whealie said:My bike sprung a rapidly deteriorating oil leak, which turned out to have been the engine casings not done up tight enough. All the bolts were loose - I got home OK having tightened them but I'll get my torque wrench on them. I'll also go over all the engine to check they were done right as this was worrying.
Yes. Just 900 miles after the engine was done. It might mean taking the engine back out and replacing gaskets that are only 900 miles old. Despite not having the space really I might do it myself this time, then I'd only have myself to blame.Lutin said:Whealie said:My bike sprung a rapidly deteriorating oil leak, which turned out to have been the engine casings not done up tight enough. Bit disturbed about the slack engine casing bolts! As I'm sure you were.
That'd give me the screaming heebie geebies.

Yes and no. When the bike came back I immediately noticed the wrong bolt through the brake calliper rubbing against the brand new brake disk. The front brakes were spongey and needed bleeding properly and a few other things. Some things I had specifically asked not to happen had (the zebra stripes had been removed from the mudguard, despite being asked three times and three times saying I wanted the stripes left) and some things I didn't need doing were done without asking. I ended up paying for all the parts and the powdercoating etc but not for the labour. This episode has only confirmed that decision was right. I am now concerned that every nut and bolt of the engine will need checking.Lutin said:Whealie said:Yes. Just 900 miles after the engine was done. Was this engine professionally built? Seems a bit odd not to do up the engine casing bolts.

I had to replace the exhaust. I then had some issues with the carbs (nothing to do with the previous issue) and I have the other bike for most of the time. This one is really only used for green-laning trips and emergencies.Ian Porter said:Whealie said:Yes and no. can't believe you've only done 900 miles since then Chris,
not that it make any difference
Of course, I'm getting the two mixed upWhealie said:I had to replace the exhaust.
