Pennine Way: Saturday day at the Green Dragon, Hardraw

After being prompted by John here are the details about the Green Dragon at Hardraw
http://www.greendragonhardraw.com/

We are booked in for the Saturday night, they have currently reserved 4 rooms for us: 2x6berth, 1x4berth and 1x3 berth, this might change so don't make any plans about room allocations until we get there. I don't think any of the rooms are ensuite but when I visited there was plenty of showers and toilets. Like the Royal Oak in Derbyshire there is only a very small kitchen with limited facilities - toaster, microwave and a few utensils - and again they are quite open that they want you to eat in the pub. Bedding including pillow and duvet are provided in the bunk house.

Camping is just turn up and pay. We will probably go there this weekend so will write up more about the facilities later.

There is a car/bike park to the side of the pub well off the road and Hardraw is a quiet place with very few passers by so bikes will be about as secure as they can be.

I asked about meal arrangements and they said no need to make a reservation and no need for an advance order. So I guess we will just order as and when we are ready either as a group of 17 or in smaller groups if that suits. They serve meals up to around 10pm and the bar usually shuts at around midnight. The pub is a lovely place - lots of small rooms with fireplaces, old pictures, low doorways, and so on, together with a nice mix of cosy corners, large tables and big spaces to socialise in and a nice big bar with a range of Ales and the usual spirits.

Breakfast is available in the pub but has to be booked the night before. I am happy to coordinate when we get there but had half planned to contact Paul at Takoda Camping to see if he would put on some bacon butties for us - its about 45minute ride from Hardraw to Takoda and I thought it would be a good way to start the day - especially if we can get Craig-WinXP out of his tent at the same time. But if Craig's camping trip falls through we probably wont do this.

My plan for arrival at the Green Dragon was to stop in Hawes before the 2-3 miles to Hardraw. In Hawes we will need to fill up with fuel ready for Sunday and if anyone needs the shops for their own food or drinks that's the time to get it. We wont be going back through Hawes on Sunday morning.

I think that's all. Any questions?

Anne and I camped at the green dragon this weekend, partly to check it out but we were camping anyway this weekend so it suited to go there. The campsite, the pub, the grounds, and everything is lovely. The walk to the waterfall is well worth it with the waterfall itself being quite a sight. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating, 5 draught beers were on, each in fine order :) bit quite expensive at £3.60 a pint. Theres a large menu priced from 6.95 for a jacket spud, to £15 for game casserole and the like. I have checked out the bunkhouse before and it's nice. Breakfast is £7.95 but I have booked us in at Takoda camping for bacon butties instead.

I also went along a good bit of the route over the weekend. It's going to be a cracker this.

I was at Takoda last Saturday (26th) - Maria said she needed to order more bacon if we were dropping in - ie., she didn't seem sure.
If not already, best confirm to the cook (Maria) and not the bottle washer (Paul)

I will ring but it was Maria I spoke to you and I watched her write it in the diary and it is in the thread on XRV which Paul has replied to.

Edit.....all sorted now :)
