Where would be convenient to find a switched live feed on a BMW GS 1200?
Need it to operate a relay(or two) for a couple of electrical extras - Sat Nav and flashing lights for marshalling duties.
Ta.
Now would this be YOUR GS?????
What happened to the tick tock thread then. I would never have guessed a GS.
You, a GS1200? Or one of the blood bikes?
Me, I'd take it from the side light, as it's always live on todays machines. Tis what I've used on both the F8GS's and the F658GS twin.
If you take that feed to energise a relay that then switches in power directly from the battery (via a fuse of course) for the other circuits you want to use, job should be a good un

I took one from the live wire that feeds the diagnostic plug using a post tap to access the wire. I could go and check which colour it is. BUT, if I was doing it again I would go for either the live wire to the accessory socket below the seat (advantage/disadvantage here would be the circuit stays live for a a minute or two after ignition off) or from the live to the rear light/or the side light as Steve suggests depending on where you want to put the relay. If all its doing is triggering a relay then I am assured from posts on UKGSer that the Canbus is not so sensitive that triggering a relay from a can bus managed circuit will make it throw an error.
Sorry, should have made it clearer - No, it's not my bike. It's for a mate who's a Blood Bike and Bike Marshal colleague.
Any "Tick, tock" thread will have to be preceded by a "Build a bigger shed" thread. One of my New Year's resolutions.........
So, bigger shed in the new year
When should we expect the Ticking to start? [emoji6]
Is this for the LC?
If so I've wired an accessory socket in using a fuse block.
It stays on for a few secs after the bike shuts down but that's a small negative really for the convenience of using it.
Accessory socket on my 2011 GSA is left side below the seat. Find the switch for the seat and forward about 4-5inches mounted into the tool tray. Or look under the seat in the tool tray to find the innards of it and the wires. Its a DIN plug with a black cap and its well tucked in so you will probably need to get well down to spot it the first time.
Here's how to tap to into the bus socket Switched power - The easy way Either use the new wire to directly power the accessories, as long as under 5amp total, or to trigger a relay. You then know the rest..
