Just a few pics from our Scotland trip
Day 1, Derby to Hawes,
Set off heading north with a first stop at the Yonderman Cafe for breakfast (typically arriving a few minutes after Hudders and Russ had departed), then headed via Ladybower and the Snake Pass cross country to Hawes. Navigation after Glossop was somewhat iffy due to a cock-up planning the route on my part but we got there and rode through some great scenery.
Ladybower
Somewhere in Yorkshire
View from the B&B in Hawes
Incident for the day – Ruth’s bike toppled over in a gravel lay-by bending the gear lever, it was still usable though and she rode the rest of the trip OK with it.
Day 2, Hawes to St. Johns Town of Dalry (Galloway)
We left Hawes under clear blue skies and needed to cover some ground today so headed through Kirkby Stephen for the A66 and Penrith, wanting to use as little motorway as possible we opted for the A6 as far as Carlisle. We then Hopped onto the M6 as far as Gretna and then used the B roads from there to Moffat, from there we headed west to Dalry.
Somewhere between Moffat and Dalry
Incident for the day – Intercoms packed up while in Gretna so made the rest of the day hard work without communications between the bikes (fixed it later that evening though thankfully)
Day 3, Dalry to Oban
Left Dalry in drizzle but thankfully it didn't last too long.
Skirted round Ayr and over the Erskine bridge to Loch Lomond where the drizzle started again but once past there and on the road to Oban it's stayed dry.
Rode through some fantastic scenery even if the weather wasn't fantastic.
Incident for the day - Locked my credit card somehow (thankfully Tesco Bank phone lines are open late)
Day4, Oban
Had a Lazy day around SUNNY Oban but it was too nice not to go out on the bikes so we had a short ride down to the Bridge Over The Atlantic
incident for the day - discovered the lens on my helmet cam was cracked and I'd filmed all but day one through it like that. So no usable video of this trip
Day 5, Oban to Skye
Left Oban and headed for Fort William and then Mallaig going the long way round via Strontian (after a detour to Glenfinnan to see the vaiduct),
The Ferry was fully loaded with BMW's on our crossing (3 of which were F650CS's which is a very rare sighting) and we avoided the pies at the suggestion of Boris
some castle in a loch somewhere
Glenfinnan viaduct
Still waters
Incident for the day - NONE, yay my luck must be changing
Day 6, Skye
Woke to rain this morning but had to move on as we were changing B&Bs that day,
Spent much of the day getting soaked in drizzle and finding places to get out of the rain,
BUT, the sun came out and we had a lovely evening so took a ride down to Elgol
Day 7, Skye
Spent the day pootling around the north west of the island as we'd not done that area before (I even got sunburn )
To Be Continued........
