CCM 450GP

I should have posted this ages ago, but have just been reminded by another thread........ so here's my version of a test ride on the CCM

I was part of a group of 23 ladies who arranged CCM to bring several test bikes to Danny's Haggs Bank Bunkhouse. CCM arrived with 2 lowered, 2 standard plus the tweaked Peaks Rally model. And several seats: low, standard, high. Sadly, due to the number of riders with differing experience we only had a 45 minute test ride each.

On the road, it was great, delivered the power quickly and was soooo light to handle, you could hoon it around the country lanes with ease.
The gear lever seemed in the wrong place - it was amusing to see the rider in front having the same problem.
The brakes seemed good and the tyres gave good grip on and off road (conditions were dry). I missed having a 6th gear & with no gear indicator, I kept hunting for it!

Off road, I found it difficult to manage. The lowered version has different forks & suspension which didn't seem to have any bounce.
The throttle was very sensitive making a slow speed track almost impossible to enjoy. On the 2nd track, I dropped into 2nd gear, overtook my fellow companions & punched through the stony track - the CCM seemed to enjoy that. I didn't - had the trail become more technical, I would have got into a lot of trouble.

Lots of riders said the same thing about the throttle so I knew it wasn't my bad skills. Those who rode the standard model & particularly the tweaked version said they didn't have any similar issues. So I was skeptical that all the bikes were test ready.

With the lowered seat and lowered bike, both feet comfortably touched the floor & with a standard seat, I also felt fine. In hindsight, whilst I had the chance, I should have tried the standard bike with the low seat. DOH!

I don't like the petrol filler being at the rear of the pillion seat - move my camping gear every time? CCM have a range of luggage which has apparently been designed with this in mind - but that doesn't include a tent!
I didn't like the side-stand that flipped up behind my thigh - too far up to reach, & I'd be concerned when luggage is loaded or balancing on uneven terrain.
Also the side-stand needed a bigger footprint - far too easy to dig into the dirt.

Ideally, I'd like a lot longer on the bike to get the feel of the throttle and handling quirks.
But personally, I want real people in the real world to prove it works before I consider buying one.

I'll post some pics when I'm with the laptop again :)

Petrol filler behind the pillion? Jesus! It'd take me about an hour to take all my crap off the bike and put it back on again to fill up!
