Sorry, this barely counts as a ride report as we forgot to take any pictures, and we also failed to have any of our usual misadventures. But just to say, today I had what I think is probably my most enjoyable ride to date. Sometimes things just fall into place and that's how it felt. I've not had much opportunity to get out on the bike just lately, but had managed to keep today clear. As it happens so had Chris, and the weather was beautiful. As many of our rides take us into Derbyshire, we decided to go the other way for a change, and headed out for Empingham, a pretty village almost on the Lincolnshire/Rutland border. We decided to let the satnav do the route planning, but still managed to miss a turning en route. This proved to be a real bonus as we found ourselves heading down beautiful one-track lanes in the middle of nowhere. Apart from that, the roads were mainly rolling hills with lots of twists. A couple of more challenging bits where the roads were being mended and the surface was 'loose chippings'. However, this didn't faze us too much. We wound up at a lovely hostelry the www.whitehorserutland.co.uk, where we relaxed over a cold drink, a bite to eat and a cup of tea, and watched the world go by. In particular, a kite (of the bird kind) soaring and hovering above us. The pub seemed popular with bikers, no doubt on account of its location close to such stunning roads, though the other bikes there were mainly sports bikes, We then took a different route home, via Melton Mowbray, and again crossed country down small and pretty roads.
A couple of minor riding errors on my part through poor positioning at junctions leading to taking turns a bit on the wide side, but nothing much else. And of course, no errors on Chris's part! . So, some learning for me, and lots of practice gained, but most of all, a really good day out.
