I use a midland XTC with a waterproof case and am happy with the picture and sound quality however its a couple of years old now and things have moved on so I would be interested to see what is currently recomended. I would like remote operation. A thumb switch and recording LED on the handlebars would be usefull.

I've got an Oregon ATC9K with 32mb card which does full HD and has good sound and also takes stills. Its fully waterproof to 3m, comes with instructions, mounting kit etc and you can have for £25 + P&P if you want it. I bought it for canoeing and made about 3 films on it, but its sat in a drawer for 18 months as I make films with a hand held nowadays. PM me if you're interested.

Ihad the ATC3k some years back and it took good quality film but the sound was crap on it as i remember. The shape was very similar to the 9k but it didn't have the screen at the back. I also found it a pain pressing the buttons when riding with it on my helmet i never knew if it was recording or not. So i machined up an aluminium bracket which bolted directly to the Handlebars on the XR then the camera just slide into it. It was perfect as the camera was perfectly still the button were on to and visible as i could look down on them.

I was out one day and had it filming got to a stop and went to turn it off and looked down, the base of the camera was in the clamp but the cheap plastic construction on the bottom of the camera just came away from the camera. I guess with the front suspension bouncing over rocks ets the shock travelled through the handle bars and the camera couldn't take the punishment.

This is an exact copy of the one i had

I'm going to get another camera in about 12mths time for when i go to the TT ( iwant 2 front and rear facing) i want to try and find something which is motion sensing to start recording or can be activated by flipping a switch on the dash

I quite like the idea of this one as you could mount he camera's where you want put the screens on the handle bars and it comes with a big red button to activate recording which would work well with gloves on.
