National Ride Outs?

As I am now crocked with my achilles snapped I cannot lead a ride out for the weekend however I can plot some routes if anyone is interested in leading. This would be along the lines of the practice run we had a couple of months back from the Bruce Arms. A good mixture of tarmac and easy lanes (if dry) taking in 4 of the 5 Wiltshire white horses and Stonehenge/Avebury area. I will try to make it for a beer or 3 but it will be in the car  If I do get along there will space for a similar run around the hotspots in the motor! Lots of coffee stops as I will be hobbling along. Other localish attractions to consider: Bath, Bristol (note traffic!), Sammy Miller bike Museum (New Forest), Beulie museum (near Sammy Miller), Army Air Corp museum near Andover, Portsmouth forts, Glastonbury Tor, ACheddar Gorge, Avebury stone circle around the village, Silbury Hill along with West Kennet burial chamber, Lacock photography museum, Castle Combe.

When you say easy lanes are they accessible on a rt? Or is ground clearance required?

I SNAPPED my right achilles while sparring in Taekwondo a decade ago. Surgery has given me almost complete use of the leg again and I have walked many miles on it since, BUT........ my calf muscle shrank quickly while I was in the 'boot', I was lazy with the physiotherapy and my calf muscle has never fully recovered and is still half its original size.

Then in March of this year I TORE my left achilles while hiking the UK Coast-to-Coast, but continued to walk through it (daft bugger that I am) :rolleyes2: . It has taken UNTIL NOW for me to be able to walk properly again.

So, my advise is - get the best medical fix you can, and if you want to regain full use of your leg, do what the Doctor says and BE COMPLETELY CONSCIENTIOUS IN DOING THE PHYSIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and good luck,

Nick

Thanks all. I am not sure an RT is the right bike due to lack of supension but in the right frame of mind? You could defo get away with Salisbury Plain perimeter road which is easy hard pack but you may find a couple of others such as the lane that goes to Stonehenge from Larkhill a bit bumpy.
In a boot at the moment but going back tomorrow for second opinion on surgery. I am on a self heal plan (driving me nuts) but the consultant said complete rupture. My physio who I know well and trust says thats bowlarks and that I will still need an op at some stage so I am stuck in the middle??? Another doc said he was suprised (deals with rugby players) along with my GP so I have asked for a second opinion. Wondering if they will close ranks? Cage fighting....ski jumping.....stunt riding.......nah... tennis!

Don't avoid surgery if that's an option. It's quick and easy, bloodless (not much blood supply down there) and heals quickly. When mine went, it sounded like a pistol shot and my foot flopped around like a dead fish.
