Could have been worse

Most of the damage has polished out

Too much even for T-cut! Is that a through-bolt? If so, it looks like a hacksaw job, and then drift the remains out :(

It is a though bolt but as it's threaded both ends I 'should' be able to drive it out from the other side but it's stuck solid [emoji853]

If it replaces the oe bolt (rather than going through the centre of it?) It mist have something to tighten against the engine.
Hard to see from the pics.
What is under the alloy spacer?

I've got a replacement Phil

It really is just a bar threaded at. Both ends

The fitting instructions say it just slides in while pushing the old one out at the same time

As one end is (involuntarily) bent, can you grip it with a Mole wrench and twist it a bit to loosen it? Presumably it's a bit bowed, but might free off with some wiggling.

I've been thinking the same, just need to protect the threads in case I can't shift it and need to reuse it as is

Sorry to hear this Ian but main thing is you're ok. Only just catching up with news as home broadband not working.

How is the VFR now riding now Ian? Its always the panel fit and handlebars that are never quite the same? Never minded trail bikes dropping unless it hurt but dropping a nice roadbike ..thats different...still stops me spending big time on a bike. Was chatting to a guy recently who pulled out of Fowlers on his brand new CB1000R and dropped it at the first T jcn at the end of the road!

Seems fine

Not ridden it far though as still need to get the crash bobbin bolt out so I can get the panels back on

My shoulder on the other hand is taking a bit of recovery, still not quite right [emoji853]
