Another fine day in the forgotten part of Scotland.

Why is it that everyone thinks that to see the beauty of Scotland you have to go North? They are all missing the great scenery and great twisty roads of Dumfries and Galloway. :thumbsupanim: For me it is an easy ride, just as near as the Lake District or the Dales, but the best thing is.................there is nobody there! :eekicon:

I went exploring a couple of places today, firstly, the back road from Carsphairn to Moniaive, a wee cracker.

I stood in that layby for at least 10 minutes just listening to the silence, the road is about 18 miles and I never meet another vehicle.
Going through Moniaive I saw a sign for the Striding Arches, so I thought I would have a look. After driving 7 miles on a tiny single track with the obligatory gravel/grass/sh!te all over it I came upon a gate so I had to turn around and go back. Here again the silence was golden. :)

A bit of research shows that the Striding Arches are part of a 9km walk taking in a bit of the Southern Upland Way but with me being a BMW rider................I don't do walking!

Anyhoo, I had a great day out.

Andy.

The weather has been excellent and you are bang on about the borders [emoji2]

sent from my rotary phone ....

Err, no, that mark was there when I stopped...............honest. ;)

I agree with you Andy - D&G is a wonderful area and often overlooked in favour of the Lakes or Highlands, a bit like the Borders & into Northumberland too I suppose :)
Lovely rideout & pics

nice one Andy,

one of the highlights about the Galloway Forest meet is getting there :)

as you say, a forgotten and lovely corner of Scotland..

Try Tena Pads for those 'moments' :)

we took a ride through the area last year,

great roads and no traffic :)

definitely worth a return trip

Sssshhhh, don't tell everybody!!

I'm quite glad it's forgotten and have spent many fantastic holidays up there. The sheep in their spam cans queue for miles to get off the M6 at the lakes, yet an hour further on and you get all this! If you get as far across as Portpatrick, you even get a 'Cornish' fishing village thrown in for free.....

Next national in outrunners garden
I am getting tired of these nationals being so close to me. About time we did some up north again :thumbsupanim: :thumbsupanim: :thumbsupanim:

Andy -
You've obviously spoiled it now as, inspired by yourself, I did the same run today (with minor variations) and ran into 4 cars, 3 bicycles and a couple of motorbikes not to mention a couple of hailstorms, some rain, cold wind and a fair bit of sunshine!
Now keep quiet about this area or I'll come over there and get that breakfast you owe me!!
Ian
