disability ramps

Another exhibitor in Manchester had bought a secondhand disability scooter/wheelchair ramp for their van and used it to wheel bikes in. Their bikes were cafe racers and they fitted three in a transit side by side. My bike fills the same space - or at least takes up the space of two of their bikes. So my bike is much heavier. Anybody any experience of these or any good reason why I shouldn't do the same?

I currently put two single ramps in, wheeling the bike up one while walking up the other. The bike is winched in as two of us cannot push it up the ramp. The ramp I walk up gets slippery in the wet and I nearly came a cropper loading the bike in the rain in Scotland a few weeks back so I need a safer solution.

These ramps are certified safe at a weight of 300KG. The bike and me probably weight a bit more than that in total. Any thoughts?

If your ramps are anything like the ones I use for the missus mobility scooter. Three sections giving about 10 feet in total and made of aluminium. Then I wouldn't use them. Even with 150 kilo scooter has begun to stretch the soft Ali in places. It is only a matter of time before you snap them. Get it reinforced or buy a proper bike ramp there are some ten foot ones about.
Put that in the middle and you and assistant can have one of the mobility ones either side.

If you do drop or ramp snaps please ensure it is caught on film for us to view, assess and chuckle at
Thanks

I brought a single folding aluminium ramp new at an autojumble seen them around still ~£55. Use it to get bikes onto my trailer rise of ~15", length ~ 8'. Had my Harley Ultra on it so will cope with most bikes, perhaps not a fully dressed 1800 wing but had a naked GL1000 on it. No problem with AT, GS and similar Will fold and just fit across the boot of a CMax.

The Safe Working Load is 300Kg, the maximum weight it can carry is usually 500Kg. If it is a one piece ramp it will be less likely to break, it may flex slightly ( Bend)

Cheers all.

I have just bought a Portaramp off a disability shop via eBay. I am picking it up on Saturday and the guy will fit it for me. Sunday will involve loading the bike into the van on wet grass so this is a relief.

You're only as old as the woman you feel (damn, she's two weeks older than me).
