DVLA, wtf!

I sent my driving licence back to get the PCV class removed as I no longer drive for a living and it had expired anyway but all my other classes expired in 2017 when I would have to renew on my 70th birthday. So, licence comes back, quick check to make sure all classes were as they should be, and they were.........................except my licence now expires in Feb 2016, hello?
I am sure it is not the photo that will need renewed on that date as they got a new photo 8 years ago. I just wonder about the efficiency of those people that deal with things down there as you hear stories about folk losing categories and other cock ups all the time.
Anyway, I am not going to bother contacting them as I am sure it will just cause grief and will just send it back next year when required.

It's well known that the DVLA are a law unto themselves. Goodness knows how they get away with it in this day and age.

Just count yourself lucky that that's all they managed to screw up.

Try emailing them giving them a poke for there incompetence, you're riding that bike to much any way ...

A number of years ago (10), I sent my licence away for renewal - did not check it until about 6 months later - found my motorcycle entitlement was not there!
Despite sending dvla a copy of previous licence they would not re-instate - so had to take my test again - and failed!
So although it cost a few hundred quid, it appears they knew more about my abilities than I thought!
Passed on the next occasion :thumbsupanim:

I was told they will not accept a photocopy of your old licence unlesss it has been signed by a solicitor , even a chief constable is not god enough

Imagine if someone needed a licence renewal, but somehow lost the old one. Instead of sending off the old one, he/she would simply ask for a 'replacement'. Then, if the new licence had an error, wouldn't it be convenient if the old one were somehow - miraculously - found? The owner could either send off the old one as evidence, or go to the trouble of getting a solicitor to sign a photocopy.

I believe it's illegal to declare your old licence as lost when in fact it isn't, but I'm just making a fictional or hypothetical story. You know, just for discussion like.

Best thing is to check your current entitlement BEFORE sending your old one back

You can do it online or over the phone

That's what I did when I got mine changed for a photo licence and all was fine

on ther other handmy mate Paul from cornwall had his licence come back woth the bike entitlement on it a few years ago that he did not have before it went in , and i know a truck driver that took his rigid truck test and got the artic licence back

Re: DVLA, not wtf for a change

With trepidation I filled out an online application for my new replacement 70+ drivers licence Monday afternoon.
My old licence was a paper one from 1975 when I last moved house, I think that one replaced the previous red booklet one.
Friday post the new plastic licence arrived with correct entitlements car, bike, moped, trike, quad, towing, lawn mowers etc and picture from my passport.
A pleasent surprise after reading of the problems others have had
