Final drive small leak

When I got home I seen some dark spots on the rear wheel only on the drive shaft side of the wheel. On further investigation the 'black cap' had a thin covering of oil and only one of the cap screws, the back right next to the drain plug.

I use the bike daily for work, do you think it's safe to continue using?

Any advice on what my next steps should be to investigate the issue?

Not sure if the below will work... it's a photo of the FD

Photobucket wants me to log in, so no that doesn't work. ;)

Not familiar with the 1200 or the "black cap", is that like an air vent or something? Final drive leakage does sound like something to investigate as you don't want that seizing up on you. Not having seen the pictures I'd probably start with cleaning the oil off with brake cleaner or whatever, checking to see if there's still enough oil in it, doing a test ride and see how much oil leakage there is now. As long as it's not gushing out it's probably not an immediate disaster.

And check for play on that big bearing, if you can move the wheel in any other direction than round and round the way it's supposed to go, stop.

I can't look at picture either Rob.
Sounds like a leak I had in the GS Adventure I had. Small leak next to the large seal nut ?
Very simple to change if this is the case.
Try sending a photo via the site, see if that will work.
Wouldn't get stressed up about it for now, pour yersel a large Red :D
