UPDATE - The event is definitely on!! :thumbsupanim: . Weekend of 27th September.

Please add your name here if you would definitely attend. I will need £10 and a copy of the insurance cert for the bike you intend ride through the forest by Monday 22nd at the latest.

Here's the details:
Date is the weekend of 26th/27th/28th September 2014 Arrive Friday 26th, at Balloch O dee Campsite http://www.ballochodee.com/home/4553037475 , set up camp, socialise, eat&drink. Ride through the forest on Saturday 27th leaving at 9am. We should be back at the campsite early evening for more relaxation and we make our ways home on Sunday. Camping costs £10 per tent per night, lus it would seem £2.50 per adult. As far as I know there is no pub or shop close to the campsite so you need to bring everything in with you.

The ride will be up to 170miles in total about 120 of which is on forestry tracks. That is a very long day and a lot of track riding but we have options to not do certain sections. There is fuel near the start and about 2/3rds distance. Expect U turns as we will be exploring some of the more remote dead end tracks. The route includes the ride to the top of "the hill" to the radio mast above Glentrool. The tracks are easy well graded forestry tracks easily doable on an AT, a TA, a Vara, a GS and even on an R1200RT (although easy might not be correct in that case). A dedicated off roader is overkill for this event.

The Scottish Forestry Commission charge for access to the forest at £100 for the event and £5 per bike. I only cover those costs so how much you pay depends on numbers but to start with I will need £10 off each rider but there is a maximum of 25 riders. Post me cash, a cheque (pay Austin Winckler) or bank transfer to 13264869 at 01 03 33. I have a phone registered with PayM - 07969 057 873

Post to: Spike the Dog, 40 Croston Road, Garstang, Lancashire, PR3 1HR; email to austin at winckler dot org dot uk.

I need to have a copy of your motorcycle insurance in my hands by Monday 22nd September to send onto the SFC so they know participants are legit and sticking to rules of the event that I have agreed with them: email austin-at-winckler-dot-org-dot-uk (without the dashes) or post as above.

I hope to visit the campsite soon to check all OK and to recce the area and getting into the forest. I will provide an update after that.

I have completed the SFC's application form, updating the risk assessment and will be signing the contract on your behalf.

I have probably forgotten some stuff so keep checking back here for updates - which will be clearly identified.

Wild camp is an option if there's not too many. By that big viaduct is where I would go.

Ok I think I have found a campsite and they are fine for a group of us. I said 10-15. The site has a bothy and a "roundhouse" but both are booked up so its camping only and if the weather is not so good we will to make our own shelter. Good news is that camp fires are encouraged.

Please sign up in this thread. The cost may be slightly more than £10 each for the forestry run if there are less than 20 of us but I can sort that on the day.

Please send your insurance Certs to Austin at Winckler . Org . UK. No spaces or anything. If you can't get a PDF then send a copy to: Spike the Dog, 40 Croston Road, Garstang PR3 1HR.

Cheques to be sent to the same address. Or by PayM to 07969 057 873 or by direct transfer to 13264869 at 01 03 33.

I have been plotting some routes tonight. 115miles of forestry track and 70 on road. EPIC.

But I am going to need more people. 15 bikes will cost £11.50 each; 10 bikes will cost £15 each; 5 bikes will cost £25 each.

Hi Austin, is there a brief rundown on times, start/end point etc? i.e is there camping/staying somewhere on the Friday night ready for an early off or is it be there at x time on Saturday morning? Is it one long day with camping then all off homeward bound the next day? Never done one before so don't know what the script is. Only asking as my wife may come over for the evening at the campsite so need to work out what vehicles are needed where at what time.

I'm not at work Friday so if you need a hand with owt let me know.

Ta muchly.

Thanks for the reminder Mark as I hadn't realised there were no joining instructions and stuff. I will update this thread shortly.

I will need the one that is current on the 27th. Your insurance company should email you a copy upon renewal and just forward that to me. email address is in post #1

I know you dont like camping much and I had hoped to book the bothy at the campsite, still be good to have you along and in a tent :thumbsupanim:

I have no idea about XPS docs. What I do is use the "prt scrn" button. This places a snap shot of your screen into clipboard, then open paint or similar and click paste. Then save as a JPEG or BMP file. As long as the forestry can see names, dates and reg number that will be fine. If the worst comes to the worst take a photo of the document and email that to me.

Anybody who's travelling north past carlisle fancy meeting up for breakfast/lunch/whatever and then travelling on together?

Austin I've transferred £10 and emailed the insurance. Hope you receive both. And thanks for all your work on this, doesn't sound like it's been very straight forward. Much appreciated!
