Hello from South Yorkshire

Hi All,

I thought it would be prudent to do the "introduce yourself" activity before anything else.

The name is Leigh (pronounced Lee for those who don't know) and I live in South Yorkshire but hail from near Bristol. I am a life-long biker and currently have a wide variety of rides in my biking stable. Although the bike which brought me here is my Honda Varadero, I also have a couple of the Triumph Rocket IIIs, a '77 customized Goldwing, and a Honda Valkyrie stored in the USA for my trips over there. I have semi-OCD and procure parts like they are going out of fashion, and at one point I had so many "spares" I used a lot of them to make a Suzuki GSX1100 engine based chopper with Triumph Rocket III ancillary parts!

Enough of that, and back to the "trallie" side of things. I dont really go off Tarmac, although I spend most of my time on "Adventure Touring" type trips. I am not adverse to doing serious miles (have done the Iron Butt Association 1000miles/24hr and its UK 36hour rally before), and enjoy participating in motorcycle photographic rallies such as the Round Britain Rally.

I am currently considering getting a new bike along the lines of the Yamaha Super Tenere World Crosser or the Triumph Explorer XC, and that's how I stumbled across this site. I would welcome some input on S10WC vs TEX-XC to try and help me make my mind up. Test rode the Exploder - excellent fit and excellent performance, but I havent year managed to find a test-ridable S10 but have managed to plant my arse upon on and it feels "good".

Hope to meet some of you in due course.

Hello Leigh,
New here myself but in reality its the same type of fun site you get when people of the same interest get together.
You'll find lots of the peeps on here, are on other forums with similar interests.
Always nice to be with people you can share your passion with.

Welcome Leigh, welcome to the youngest trailie forum on the net, hopefully you'll play an active part in forming what we hope will be the best biking community around, there are quite a few recognisable names from the plethora of forums out there I'm hoping that this becomes the place they call home from now on

thats some stable you have there mate :eekicon:

Yes, there seems to be a lot of new forums popping up - mostly due to disagreements on other sites. I like to dip in and out of forums until I find ones I can call home (and like bikes, I have many homes :D ).

Just a quick update.

As some of you may have noticed (ahem) I have posted a 'few' Varadero and related items for sale in the appropriate section. The deal is done - the Varadero has gone to the dealers, and I am awaiting delivery of a '64 plate Trumpet Exploder XC in Khaki Green!

Nice one mate.

A mate of mine has one and loves it. Same colour too. Apparently running it in is a pain as you cant go over something stupid like 1800rpm for the first 100mls...

My mates has done about 8,000mls in 6 months and the only thing to go wrong was the throttle position sensor and the spokes have rusted badly already.

What made you choose that over the S10?

Well, the service intervals were one thing, but in the end not finding anywhere to test ride one in the end made the decision. I rode the Exploder and really liked it. The local yam dealer (J&S at Doncaster) had S10s in but wouldnt let them out to be test rode. How anyone can drop 13grand on a bike they have no idea what it rides like is beyond me.

I heard about the spoke fuzz. The tps is/was a known problem due to incompatibility with the original ecu (!). There is an ecu recall on the earlier bikes now. Since mine wont be cobbled together until August, they out to have all the latest mods.
