Isle-of-Man

Just returned from a short-break to the Island. Went to do laps of the TT course and the Southern 100. Sally had a bit of a struggle to get on and off the bike as she has a bad hip - difficulty in getting your leg over has a totally different meaning when you're an OAP! Once on, we had some really enjoyable rides including the Tholt-y-Will hill climb course and a trip to the Laxey Wheel. We met up with Steve and Goedele from Belgium on an NC750 at The Sound cafe and spent the day touring the south west and doing a lap of the Billown Circuit (Southern 100). The weather was great, Ballocowell guesthouse very comfortable and Manx kippers for breakfast. Okell's beer went down a treat at the Sulby Hotel - what more can one want from a holiday?

TT weekend would be excellent, Isle of Man looks worth a tour ...

Isle-of-Man is a beautiful place with lots of history and a great place for a short stay. However, what spoils it is the ridiculous prices charged by the Steam Packet Company for the ferry - should be called the 'Costa Packet Company'. The return ferry from Douglas to Liverpool was over an hour late, it was very dirty with stinking toilets and the food was pig swill! Also, we enquired while we were on the Island but couldn't find anywhere to stay for next year's TT which would book under 7 nights - as pensioners we could only afford 3 nights.

I have been to the IOM on four occasions and have had a blast every time and one time I took my 10 yr old Danish son and it was worth all of the £1000 it cost us to get there (from Denmark) just to see the look on his face when he saw the purple helmets showing off and all the other silly stuff we enjoy at the IOM.
Costa Packet?
Not in my opinion.

Great report by the way.
