Lots of ideas but precious little actually planned.

Life has been on hold for a bit with my Father in Law finally passing away a couple of weeks ago after being desperately ill more or less since we got back from Canada in September. The MiL is needing a lot of help and support to get her through the funeral and deal with officialdom, so we will have to see how she fares over the next couple of months before we scarper for a prolonged period. She will come through it though.

We are thinking of a long slow trip around Europe - the idea of setting up the tent above a greek beach for several weeks of lounging about eating salad and sipping retsina all day is very appealing. But, South America beckons (fly to canada late summer and ride all the way down and back up to somewhere where getting the bike back again is cheap), or backpacking around SE Asia or on cheaply bought Hongdu 125s is attractive so we can meet up with son #2 who is backpacking out there himself. Lots of ideas, lots of time, not so much money. We will probably end up on the beach in Bognor :(

Austin, really sorry to read about your in laws , tough times. All your potential trips sound great and will help you get through the now. I think the beach with wine is a better option than keeping up with your son backpacking....

Austin - if you and the missus are daft enough to head for South America, you know you're welcome here at either end.

Look's like our spell of good weather may be coming to an end...............but on the bright side, the Eldo's back together and running well.

That's a great photo - very atmospheric. ;)

(Sorry, couldn't resist that one.)

I take it that the wiring harness did not put up too much of a fight then?

Thanks Tony - the wiring went extremely well. I don't understand electricity at all, but the harness kit I bought was so well organized, tailored to the specific bike, and his instructions so clear that anyone could have done it.

Now I have real lights!

Nice, clear concise instructions are a blessing alright. Unfortunately they are all too rare.

Anyway, glad you got it sorted.

ps Electricity is just electrons. All you have to remember is that they're lazy little buggers, and will take the easiest path possible - which is sometimes not where you want them to go. ;)

What about those poor neglected holes?

Anyway, truth be told electrickery is really down to the pixies and their different coloured hats [emoji3]

Yep, saw that. Makes me want to do it again. Well, the bits I've done before again.

Though I do wonder if the promotion of the route will bring out the muppets in their cars (mostly hire cars driven by tourists not used to narrow roads and driving on the left) like our own Wild Atlantic Way? I was quite happy that the grockles didn't know the routes as they were nice and quite - just the locals. Now they've put up hoards of new signs pointing the way for anyone to follow. It's just not the same anymore........ ;)

[Grouch Mode OFF} :D

Just looked at this again.
Think you are absolutely correct.
My site access is just on the outskirts of town on the back road to Loch Ness and I have to say that there is a definite increase in bikes, kit cars etc on the road after the introduction of the NC 500.

Not only that, took the strange one for a blast over the Beallach, think it was a couple of months ago. We went from Lochcarron towards Applecross. Never seen it so busy :(
What made it more sh1tty was that although most of the cars stopped for me going up the hill, which is I guess is hill etiquette, push bike guys couldn't give a monkeys.
Got to the double bends just before the summit, which are pretty steep and tight. 1st push bike came down the hill towards me in the middle of the road, had to swerve to avoid him, then his mate, about 20 yds behind him did exactly the same thing.
The air was blue inside my helmet as I cursed them both, then wellied the Beemer, forgot I wasn't on the AT resulting in me pawing the air with my front wheel whilst my beloved behind me,hanging on for dear life and screaming in my lugs

Wasn't intentional and I was still seething as I arrived at the bottom of the hill.
Fekin cyclists think they own the road.

Anyways, I guess it won't be like that all the time but I have to wonder, will it get busier ?
Probably will but we can only hope that the sacred midge and the crap weather will keep most folk away

Well, this has the makings of a thoroughly good day out :D

Maybe too far for one day however, ( I hear Raymo groan already :D ) --- ok for you sunshine, I'm sure you have a leather ass

Due to popular demand, we shall go anti clockwise, ie up North and then west
I'll look at it again at the start of the year, maybe slot in a weekend somewhere along the way.

Sooooo, who's up for it ?

Gwan gwan , you know you want to :thumbsupanim:

Me & Stan will be up for this

June is fine for me but not the 1st weekend

Fine Paul,

Let's say 2nd weekend in June if that is ok with the collective
If I don't hear anything to the contrary, that's a go - er :thumbsupanim:

Do want to travel up to mine on the the Friday, stay overnight, have a rest and then tackle the NC on the. Sat/sun ?
I'll set up a meet in the ride out section shortly.

Ok,

Here's the craic ----

Do the route the other way round :D
Arrive at mine in Inverness on the Friday evening, kip down on my floor or whoever is first, get the shout of the three bedrooms spare, or camp in my back garden if you wish ( I'll leave the back door open  )
Start on the Sat morning, saunter up the east coast, JOG etc, arrive in Durness, camp in Sango Sands camp site., good site, all amenities close by. Take a jaunt up to Cape Wrath.
Head back down the west coast on the Sunday, take in Kylesku,Drumbeg, Ullapool, Bealach etc and head back to Inverness. Stay at mine again if you wish on the Sunday then head off back home on the Monday.

Well that's it, I'll post up shortly, bit strapped for time tonight.

Seems like a good little jaunt though, Durness is just under half way round I reckon and the camp site has brilliant views

Austin please step forward, we know you're good at these things and after India you got nothing to do with your time :respect-047:

Did I mention that I should be OK to do this :D . . . . . seeing as it's on my doorstep and I've never "done" the whole loop :eekicon:

Don't think I'll need to bunk at yours John ;)

I've also got space for a few dossers, should the need arise :D

I think the awkward bit is a reference to The Longest Day Charity rides and was tongue in cheek as it all got a bit weird after we had done a couple. John Lowflyer is doing a fine job organising this one though.
