New Tigers

Chatting to a mate in the pub last night, he mentioned there was a brace of updated 800 Tigers due out next year.
As far as I can tell, updates include: 12 bhp increase, better fuel economy, switchable abs, switchable power modes, traction control, brake and suspension upgrades including WP suspension on some models etc

There will be a couple of xr 'roadies' and a couple of offroad biased 'xc' models.

I'm sure someone can dig & post some pics up.

It's news to me and hopefully the updates will sharpen the bike up a bit, they certainly cement it's position in this market sector.

This reinforces how slow Honda has been in getting back into mid-range adventure bikes. Between the Tiger 800 XC, F800 GSA and F650 Sertao we have a choice of 'not quite so heavy' dual-sport bikes with 21" spoked wheels, engine guards etc etc etc. Even the KTM 1190 Adv isn't all that heavy! The cross-dresser type bike is probably more sensible, versatile and practical for most of us most of the time, but they don't make my heart beat faster!

The abs has always been switchable but I believe they're moving control from the clocks onto the handlebars :thumbsupanim:

Yes but now switchable on the move, which I believe they weren't before.
Not that it matters for 99.9% of owners!

Agreed, it does make Honda's lineup seem pitiful!

Have a look at this thread

I heard bad things about Triumph warranty even before they launched these bikes which is one reason I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Your first course of action should be to subscribe to Which? Legal Service (Consumer Association), see legalservice.which.co.uk/#?intcmp=GNH.Services.Legal-Service

It's the best £88 you can ever spend for legal advice and gives you unlimited access to their solicitors for a year. We have used Which Legal Service to reclaim thousands of pounds over the years.

You've got three different messages emanating from the same company
- This is a hard-core bike that you can cross continents on, whether or not there are roads going in that direction
- This model is designed for little off road use
- Triumph motorbikes are street motorcycles... not suitable for offroad.

You bought the bike on the basis of claim #1, but now Triumph are trying to wriggle out of their obligations. Clearly there was no alternative to you having a temporary repair done. What were you supposed to do—ship the bike back to the UK so they could inspect it?

There has been an outcome

Interesting thread Paul, not read it right through but 29k of hard miles with luggage will stress a bikes' frame.
Obviously some have had Triumph warranty issues but couldn't you say that with any brand?
A couple of folks I know have had great warranty service from Triumph including Russ who got a Brandfeckinnew engine for a spot of corrosion half the size of my little finger nail!

I can see their reasoning about the bodge job, but in PR terms this is still a massive own goal.

And indeed, BMW is pretty far from a shining example in this sort of thing. They're just secure in the knowledge that people will buy their stuff anyway.

Didn't you have a hitch with the purchase of the latest bike Russ?

Something to do with missing documentation?

Looks like Triumph are looking to worm out of this one again

"Here is my latest email from Triumph UK:

I’m afraid I have to inform you, that while we are happy to provide you with a new frame, we must insist that the frame is replaced by a Triumph franchised dealer.

We would also ask that you remove from social media, all comments related to this case, if you fail to do so we will retract our offer.

Best regards.

I was prepared to remove all posts by myself and had actually removed this thread from ADV. However the editor has decided to reinstate it so there goes my new frame. Does anyone know a good welder?"

More people who haven't heard about the Streisand Effect, apparently.

The thing that gets me about demanding to remove the comments is that it's an admission that this is about making the nuisance go away, not about making your dissatisfied customer happy. They've now decided that making the nuisance go away is worth spending some money on, with strings attached obviously, but it's clear they still don't give a shit about whether their customer is happy.

Did he have grounds for a claim? I don't think making the claim was unreasonable, in the sense that he did exactly what the advertising bumf currently on their website says the bike is for.

Circumstances, well yeah, bit extreme, maybe even a bit dodgy, who knows? On the other hand, how many people buy these things and how many people go to these extremes with them? I'm guessing it'll be a handful. That might very well have been covered by a small goodwill fund, it would've netted them a satisfied customer which is good for business. Especially if you then have the PR dept spin it a bit, "Every bike can be broken, eventually. These are the lengths you have to go to to break one of ours. And if you do, we'll make it right", or something like that. Knowing full well that maybe five people in a decade will take them up on it.

Now they just look petty, whether they're technically right or not.

I'll not go into my experience with Triumph and their dealer up here in the Highlands, both were absolute dog toffee and I would certainly NEVER buy a Triumph product again.
My reason for posting? Simple, In response to the comment nobody ever praises, I have always sung the praises of Honda and my local dealer, Willie Young motorcycles. New discs on my Crosstourer due to a slight warp, fitted next day.
Over 100k miles on Honda's, never a grumble. My next bike will probably be a Honda.

Triumph? Keep using threatening behavior to your customers and you'll have a lot less! Worked on me.

Positive update

For all who have commented on or have been following this thread, I am happy to inform you that Triumph UK are have stood by their offer of a replacement frame for my Tiger 800XC.

They have also offered to meet me halfway with the cost (just over £400 to me) of having the frame replaced and the bike rebuilt, which I have accepted.

And as I have said both in my blog and on this forum; I never had an issue with the Tigers ability as an adventure bike (despite the fractures), the bike has coped with everything the terrain and I threw at it, and I would do it all again on the same bike.

And as an avid Triumph fan I am glad we have reached a resolution and I am looking forward to getting back on my bike and planning my next trip.
