Northyorkshire Moors Ride 4th May

Met up with a couple of lads from ABR last weekend, one on a Tenere and one on a GasGas250 (good ror recceing routes) and considering I wasn't more than 30 miles from home we managed a full day of trails most of which id never don before. And my first time on the KTM, so much smother than the AT.

Starting off with Ruttland Rigg to get into it and then some trails that where new to us and we soon found out why, thanks to the 4x4 groups I decided to turn around and go round as it took us about 30 mins to get the tenere up, 3 of us and a tow rope.

so after a bit of graft and a few more lanes we then headed to Whitby for a brew which was crawling with nice shiny bikes, just not our 3.

I used the OSMap Finder app on my phone so I planed a route on it and I have to say I was very impressed with it not having to stop all the time to check the map. all in all a very good and dirty day on the trails and some good new ones found. so looking forward to next week.

Not sure whats happened there but the pics have all gone wrong.

I was going to say something as there appear to be nine of the same image to start off the post.

Edit: That might be a bit better.

Nice one Bazza... How did the bike perform compared to the XTZ?

You can see why they ban off roading. The 4x4's have made a right mess of those lanes. When I was in the ENLROC we used to go out at weekends repairing the lanes. Those don't look like they have had any maintenance on them. I'm sure they will ban motor vehicle use on those before long if the people that use them don't help keep them in good nick!

I agree.
It's nothing personal, I know you had a great day out and you didn't cause that damage, but to see photo's of that makes my heart bleed.
I live in and love Yorkshire. I enjoy riding on the trails here too. But that's just a mess and will never recover unless closed for several years, potentially decades. These are meant to be ancient byways & we fight for them to remain open. But not even a horse and cart would use that track!

Totally Agree Elle,
I grow up around here and still live on the edge of the moors and have seen a big change over the years to some of the lanes, the one on the pic you could see where they had been winching up it and spinning all the way up, there was a plastic water pipe at the top that was once under ground but they have just drove over it and ripped it out, the ruts are now a good foot under it now, and it only got worse further up.

I know its only the odd couple that would try and attempt it so im not tying all 4x4's in the same boat as I know plenty of lads on small bikes that would attempt that week after week and make it worse, it wont be long be fore its closed.
